Before our wedding, I always stood firmly in the “no lessons needed” camp when it came to preparing for the first dance. I was convinced that it was silly and time consuming and no one would ever even notice that we’d re-learned the fox trot or waltz.
Buuuut…I have to admit, I think I’ve changed my mind.

Little Joy – “Brand New Start”
Faking it for the crowd
When I hit the dance floor for my first dance with Sparks, I was really excited. Our song means a lot to us, and we had been so looking forward to sharing it with our guests. But when we stepped into the spotlight (no, literally, there was a spotlight), we both kind of looked at each other like, “Yep, probably shoulda taken a lesson or something.” I actually apologized to everyone while we were dancing. Can you imagine!? I looked at everyone and laughed. “Sorry! We didn’t take lessons!” Ha!
It turned out OK, though. Better than OK. We had a blast out there, and Sparks even broke out a few moves and surprised me. It was a wonderful moment. Do I wish we would have planned it just a little better? Um, yeah. But it was fun and I’m pretty sure everyone watching just thought, “That is SO Mr. and Mrs. Sparkler.” So I felt like it was a success.

So I guess my advice is, practice your first dance. At least once or twice. Even if you’re as stubborn about it as I was.
Did anyone else forgo dance lessons? How did you feel post-dance?
