Mrs. Coyote's Picture
Mrs. Coyote, Westchester, NY Age and Occupation: 26, Administrative Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Computer Programmer Engagement Date: August 2010 Wedding Date: June 2012 Venue: Franklin Plaza About Me: I am an overly-caffeinated, sports-obsessed history nerd who loves a good book and hates bananas. Originally from a small town in Upstate NY, I made the move to Westchester County and never looked back! My loves include NBC Thursdays, red wine, fleece pajamas, and my amazing fiancé. Together we are planning a formal evening affair for 175 guests with a mix of new and old traditions and plenty of personal touches.
About Mrs. Coyote

I owe you an apology, hive.

I never shared our first dance song with you! It’s not that I didn’t want to, it’s just that Mr. Coyote and I had such a hard time picking one out, and by the time we finally decided on one, I didn’t have time before the wedding to squeeze another post in!

Mr. Coyote and I mulled over so many song choices when trying to decide on a first dance song. Nothing seemed to fit. Some were too long, too upbeat, the lyrics weren’t right…Oh, I could go on forever. Finally, I suggested a meaningful, but very offbeat, song. I initially introduced it as a joke, but we kept coming back to it. Could we really have a song by Adam Sandler as our first dance? Seeing as we had already chosen “500 Miles” for our recessional song, I didn’t see why we couldn’t.

And, so, Mr. Coyote and I had our first dance as husband and wife to “I Wanna Grow Old With You” by Adam Sandler. It was perfect! Short and sweet, with lyrics that are guaranteed to warm your heart. Even though I was a tad nervous about nailing our dance steps, Mr. Coyote did such a great job, so I just relaxed, followed his lead and enjoyed this special moment with my new husband.

Carry you around when your arthritis is bad.

All I wanna do is grow old with you.

Build you a fire when the furnace breaks.

Oh it could be so nice, growing old with you.

Are you having a more nontraditional first dance song?

I have loved this song since I first saw the movie. I cry every time. It is pretty much what kindled my love of seeing old people still in love with each other. I need to see if my FI is open to using this idea, because my heart just broke a little at the idea.

Love it!! My friends just got married and had this as their first dance song. I thought it was perfect :)

Our first dance will be to “Sweet Virginia” by the Rolling Stones, so I guess that’s pretty nontraditional… it’s just our song, and always has been :)

Whata great choice! We aren’t engaged yet but I’ve often thought that a traditional first dance with SO wouldn’t feel right…so I’ve thought of a few offbeat or very personal choices. I love the idea of Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars” for sentimental reasons, or the Beatles “When I’m 64″. SO is not much of a dancer, so something out of the ordinary might be better for him.

Great first dance… and great song choice!
Of course many view *I Want To Grow Old With You* as a bit of a “corny” tune… but really who couldn’t fall in love with the scene in the 1998 Movie *Wedding Singer* where Adam Sandler serenades Drew Barrymore with it ?
Total classic.
And IMO, the best song about committing one’s life to another since Lennon & McCartney wrote *When I’m Sixty-Four* back in 1967. So ya, excellent choice.
The pics are great… can really tell that you two are enjoying yourselves, and there are some cute loving looks being exchanged.
And the dip… oh honey, you guys look like two movie stars yourselves !!
You so need to get that photo framed !!

YESSSSS!!! “Wanna Grow Old With You” is on our first dance short list! We love The Wedding Singer and Mr. A and I actually bonded over an Adam Sandler movie night early on in our relationship. Love your choice!

I love this! My sister’s first dance was the same. She has been married a year and her husband just got deployed. She’s working on a care package that will use that song and pick things to send to match the lyrics. I think it’s incredibly sweet!

Thank you everyone!! These comments are all too sweet and I love that many of you are using or considering this song for your first dance too. It’s such a great song!!

@ChicagoDreamer: That is beautiful. Thank you to your sister and her husband for their sacrifice.
