Once we picked our venue, it became very obvious to me that the original color scheme we had chosen wasn’t going to work well in here. Our venue is a Victorian brownstone in the heart of Boston. The venue is very soft and oozes vintage romantic, while most of my original ideas rely on a more modern loft backdrop. I originally thought we would go for more of a blank slate type of venue and thus we would have to bring in colors. However, with the gorgeous murals and colors, I really didn’t think that was necessary.

Thus, with mild trepidation, I went back to the drawing board to pick colors and a new theme.
I decided to cut out many of the pastel colors that gave an Easter/child’s birthday party feel.
I decided originally on blue and pink. Blue is both PBear’s and my favorite color (and one of the few colors PBear will actually wear). Pink is a color that I started to really like after PBear and I started dating and actually is a color that reminds me of us. (Is that weird?) PBear loves it when I wear pink, so I’ve been buying so much pink.
And there are some really gorgeous blue and pink weddings out there these days.

I was concerned, however, about how to put those colors together to make a theme. Though many people have put together gorgeous weddings with those colors, I didn’t want the wedding to look like a baby shower. It think it is a fine line and I don’t have enough decorating skills to ensure it happened well.

Thus, I brought in a third color to it all together: peach. Peach seems to be very much in season right now. I’ve seen some really gorgeous pink, peach, and gold weddings. Peach just seems like the ideal romantic color. I think it plays off of the blue and the pink well, and I’m actually really excited about this color combination.

I’m ultimately imagining a garden tea-party feel. Something with lots of intricate romantic details, such as dome/birdcage centerpieces.

I’m really excited about where this is going, and I’m starting to see how it will all work together. Anyone else have a hard time settling on colors and a theme? Has it been more of an evolution? Did it actually work together in the end?
