Since I love hearing about what other people use, I thought I’d share my favorite skincare products. I say products rather than routine because, honestly, I’m not the most consistent user. I have, however, learned that I can keep my skin in pretty happy when I actually actively use them. I made a conscious effort throughout the summer to take better care of my skin in preparation for the wedding.
My skin is pretty average. My face is happy most of the time, although my T-zone is oily and I have mild adult acne. My acne gets more prominent at “certain times of the month” and sometimes I get really mean, ouchy, cyst-like things (most notable in history to date: during my engagement photos). The rest of my body is more prone to dry skin.

2. Effaclar by La Roche-Posay
I love using Perfect Whip. It came out in Japan in 2005 when I was attending a Japanese boarding school, just as I was looking for a new face wash. Most Japanese use a little net to whip (as in “whipped cream”) it into a fluffy heap, but I think it works just as well as a cream face wash. It’s very lightweight, but a powerhouse when it comes to cleansing and doesn’t leave my skin dry. Effaclar was recommended to me by my dermatologist back in high school, and I sometimes use it in the evening because it’s quicker to rinse off. However, my skin often feels a tad dry after using it.

3. Have a Nice Day SPF 15 by Origins
I use different moisturizers depending on how my skin feels or where I’m going. My everyday basic is Clinique’s Moisture Surge. I love how lightweight it is and how quickly it absorbs. For a little deeper moisturizing, I use Effaclar K—in particular if my skin is giving me problems. In winter I like to use Origin’s Have a Nice Day because it’s heavy and includes SPF (I often forget to protect during winter).

2. Post-Acne Spot Lightening Gel by Murad
As I mentioned above my skin has some acne—despite me already being 26. Oh well, we can’t have everything. I can definitely vouch for the Spot Treatment to minimize any emerging zits and the Lightening Gel to help with the darker spots left afterward. I also use two other prescription products from my German dermatologist, which I don’t mention here because a) one apparently doesn’t exist in the US and b) there are no pretty pictures to be found.

3. Bioré UV Perfect Milk by Kao
The Body Shop’s lip balm has been my trusty daily companion for many years. You’ll always find one in my pocket, purse, or on my desk—or all at once. If I know I’ll be out in the sun, I put on some Bioré, which I prefer over any other sunscreen that I’ve tried so far. It gives great protection while it doesn’t leave any oily residue. It also doesn’t have that typical sunscreen smell. And for those of us with post-acne spots or any kind of scar, I recommend Avène’s sunscreen stick—it’s like lip balm for your skin, so you can carry it in your purse and touch up as needed.

3. White Musk Body Lotion by The Body Shop
4. Bepanthol Fußcreme by Bayer
White Musk has been my go-to moisturizer for many years. I like its smell and lightweight consistency. When I feel the need for heavier moisture, I use Deep Comfort. My heels tend to chap easily, so I try to keep them cozy with the Bepanthol foot creme from Germany. And my latest beauty product addition is Dior’s Crème Abricot, which has done wonderful things for my cuticles this summer.
