Mr. Otter and I met in high school, started dating a couple years later, and moved in after a month of being official. The winners for what, you ask?

And the Winners Are... : wedding color schemes indianapolis Color P

We picked our wedding colors! Gray, gold glitter, champagne, ivory, and blush.

Here’s what happened: we’ve had wedding colors in mind for quite some time. They weren’t actually wedding colors, but more like “our” colors…that we would totally incorporate into a wedding. Mr. Otter’s favorite color is gray, always. Mine is actually black, but since most people say that isn’t a color, I’ll say pink is my favorite. (There is also a certain something I wanted to incorporate into the wedding or my dress that makes pink very important…but more on that later!) That settled it for us: black, gray, and hot pink it is.

Well, it was. Until I started seeing mismatched dresses. In my mind, I see the guys in gray and the girls in black. But then I realized that my dream of mismatched dresses wouldn’t pop quite as much if all the dresses were dark.

And then, I started seeing images like this…

So because of those lovely ladies (and a few others that caught my eye on Pinterest), we’ve changed our color palette!

I’ve fallen in love with these neutral, mismatched dresses. I think the look wonderful—and I love that the girls all look beautiful on their own but still look like one cohesive bridal party.

Now, I personally think that allowing the girls to choose their own dresses (with approval, because I’m too type-A to say I’ll see it when I see it) is really nice and allows them to pick out something that they *gasp* might actually WEAR AGAIN. But some people think that it’s crazy I’m not making everyone match.

What do you guys think? Crazy or nice? And come on, you can admit it—if you got one of those dresses, you would totally wear it again!

Ilike the mismatched trend (I like it way too much). I think in my ideal world I’d have my BMs wear soft gray and blush, but that doesn’t go with our colors and they decided to wear different dresses made from the same fabric.
I’m curious as for how you’ll incorporate gold glitter into your wedding :)

@Miss Toadstool: Well, I wanted it on the invites but Mr. Otter said that glitter is “the gift that keeps giving,” and would never come off our guests hands, so it looks like I’m going to have to find another way to incorporate it! :)

I love mismatched though – I want all the girls to love their dresses and spend whatever is within their means on them!

I love your colors!! Blush and ivory are two of ours, as well. :)

@shaynapunim: Yay, color twins! I just love the blush/ivory/champagne scheme – I like that it’s subtle but still looks great together. And the gold glitter can add some pop!

I have to say I agree with Mr. Otter about the invitations. I hate receiving cards with glitter on them because the glitter gets everywhere. We still have glitter in the trunk of our car from a particularly glittery birthday card Mr. T received about 9 months ago. I think glitter is best incorporated using glittery objects no one will touch, like picture frames.

I love your colors!!!! That BM pic was one of our inspiration pics! We don’t really have a palette but we have a lot of DIY decorations in those colors haha

Love your color scheme Miss Otter!! I also am a glitter fan too. Lucky for me we’re planning a fall wedding, so that means we’ve bought glitter (fake) pumpkins, some candles, and our table numbers to incorporate it in a way that doesn’t leave the mess behind but still adds the pop and sparkle. :)

Love your colors, very pretty! I agree about the glitter invites… Maybe gold sparkly confetti instead? That way its still the “ohh look sparkles everywhere” when they open the card, but less of an ongoing cleaning project after the fact? Otherwise I agree glitter on things no one touches… OR spray with two coats of clear coat spray paint to keep it in place :)

Also I did the pick your own dress thing and have had 2 bridesmaids report actually wearing their dresses again! So it does happen!! YAY

@Mrs. Treasure: & @Mrs. Aardvark: We’re all in agreement about the glitter on the invites – it just didn’t cross my mind until Mr. Otter said it. :) I have an idea in mind for table numbers but it’s a DIY, which could go horribly awry, haha. We’ll see!

@MsVoyageur: I loved that photo! It was one of my absolute favorites for mismatched dresses, and definitely made me change my mind about doing black dresses. :)

@MadTownGirl: Okay, jealous! I wanted peonies desperately, so we were pretty set in when we could have our wedding, but I would love to have glitter pumpkins around if I could! I’m sure those will look great – and keep the glitter off everyone ;)

LOVE the colors you chose! I love the soft feel to it and I wonder why I didn’t think of a pretty soft scheme like this for my outdoor ceremony. I can’t wait to see how you incorporate the gold glitter! Good luck with the DIY :)

I clean a restaurant and i tell you, the glitter stays for months! It doesn’t get swept up or mopped up unless we’re on our hands and knees and picking each single glitter by hand!
But I do LOVE the gold glitter… think of a terrific way to incorporate that in your wedding. What about on your shoes or a little bit on the corner of the eyes or nail tips or a tablecloth runner?

We did mismatched dresses and it turned out really well! I actually didn’t see all of them together until about an hour before we walked down the aisle, but I’m happy we went that way.

I love your colors! We’re doing very similar, just switching out the gray for navy which is my fiance’s color! And we’re also doing the mismatched dresses which I love. I’ve asked the girls to get blush pink dresses and just gave them really general guidelines (above the knee, no patterns, etc.). I’m doing a combo of sparkly gold and also some bold metallic gold from spray paint in a few diy projects. I’m excited to see what you come up with (and maybe steal a few ideas!!).

Ugh, just love. Everything about the color combo. So romantic and whimsical! And.. if it helps at all.. I gave my ladies choices of dress style (given that they were short, turquoise, and chiffon), and two of them have already worn them again (to other weddings)!
