Mrs. Armadillo's Picture
Mrs. Armadillo, Houston, Texas Age and Occupation: 23, Graduate Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Armed Security Officer Engagement Date: September 28, 2011 Wedding Date: March 2013 Venue: First Presbyterian Church/Bay City Civic Center About Me: I’m an oldies-loving, board game-playing, coffee addicted fine arts junkie from Southeast Texas in pursuit of her master’s degree in communication studies who met the goofy, strong, artistic, and unexpected love of her life in the beautiful piney woods of East Texas. Serendipity threw us together again and again (and again) on our college campus before we eventually stuck, but when we finally did submit to destiny, we hit the ground running and never looked back! We’re planning a religious, small town, budget-friendly, DIY-infused “winter becomes springtime” ceremony and reception to celebrate the beginning of our lives together with the people we love the most, and are pouring our hearts and souls into making sure our wedding represents us as a couple down to the nitty gritty details and balances tradition with the quirky individuality that is uniquely and unequivocally “us”!

You Can Stand Under My Umbrella

October 10th, 2012 @ 6:01 am by Mrs. Armadillo

Since we’re in the weird, transitional phase in the journey of wedding planning, I’ve been scouring the net for inspiration photos to add to my increasingly gigantic collection of what I like to call my “wedding look.” I’ve gathered enough inspiration that I think we’ve solidified the overall vision and overarching theme for the day, which gives me more time to focus on things like meaningless (albeit breathtaking) details.

Like, for example, umbrellas.

Umbrellas have no significant meaning to me other than keeping my curly hair in check on rainy days—I don’t have an umbrella collection, I don’t know every song ever written about umbrellas, and I don’t dream about umbrellas when I go to bed at night. But stick them in a wedding scenario, and ZOMG, they’re GORGEOUS.

If I think about it closer to the wedding day, I’m really considering renting a sweet, romantic lace umbrella from Bella Umbrella, an online umbrella-rental company that specializes in vintage wedding-umbrella rentals. Most of the more ornate umbrellas are $20 to rent, and you get it for five days. I’ve got my eye on this one:

Is it a necessary purchase? Nope. Will it have a huge impact on the wedding day? Not a chance.

Will it provide an opportunity for some freakin’ sweet wedding photos? You betcha!

Are you currently obsessed about a random “wedding day” item that really has no effect on the wedding itself? Are you drooling over the uber-romantic photo ops with wedding umbrellas like I am? Has anyone been a Bella Umbrella customer and could share their experience?

I’ve never heard of this company and now I must check it out! I think this would also be a great prop for engagement pictures!

I checked it out and I love this one…. Umbrella ID:119
I think they would make some dang good looking pics for the wedding but like you say, it’s not necessary… there’s a fine line between “need” and “want” and who’s going to tell us what that line is eh? :D

That is so pretty! Had I known about renting an umbrella, I probably would have spent that money as well! It actually did rain on my wedding day (Memorial Day weekend) but we were OK without umbrellas because the bulk of it happened while we were inside the church during the ceremony. But pictures with a pretty lace umbrella would have been nice!

That is a pretty umbrella, but I just don’t see myself getting any no-effect item, I’m cheap like that.

I haven’t rented from Bella Umbrella, but I’ve window-shopped their store in Seattle every time I walk past… and whoa, their stuff is PRETTY!!

That umbrella is so gorgeous! And totally justifiable as a cute prop and as sun protection :)

I think my obession is more about the photos! I want to have like, a zillion photos from our wedding day! My fiance gets bemused when I say things like “That would make for a great photo on the wedding day” haha! I love the umbrellas, especially the one you chose!
