Beautiful Bridesmaids

October 11th, 2012 @ 4:01 pm by Mrs. Treasure

I’ve talked about my initial dress-hunt failure, my inspiration, and how I changed my mind. But I never told you which bridesmaids’ dresses I chose in the end! Oops!

I wanted floor-length, gray dresses. After I decided the mismatched look wasn’t going to work, I started looking at options. I looked at traditional bridesmaids’ dresses, and I also looked around at department stores. On Macy’s website, I found this dress.

I loved it. I loved the one-shoulder silhouette, the brooch detail on the shoulder, and the way the fabric drapes over to one point on the hip. It’s so flattering. But they didn’t have my sister’s size in stock online, so the search continued.

One day, I was killing time downtown before an evening class by wandering around Macy’s. I decided to poke around the formal dress department to see what they had. Lo and behold, they had this dress! In my sister’s size!

I tried on the dress…

…loved the way it looked, and put the dress on hold for my sister. I came back the next day with my Macy’s card and got it with a discount! Fortunately, they had Bridesmaid L’s size online, so she just placed an order (also with a discount code) and got the dress mailed right to her apartment in Kansas.

The benefit of buying dresses right off the rack at the department store is that no one needed alterations. They looked great on the wedding day!

Sassy Bridesmaid L strikes a pose on the wedding day.

Did you (or would you) buy your bridesmaids’ dresses from a department store?

That’s a really pretty dress! I’m a huge fan of long flowy gowns! I NEVER thought to look at Macy’s for bridesmaids dresses!

Love the dress and that sassy pic of your BM! For a friend’s wedding I was in, we got our dresses at JCPenney’s and for my wedding, my sister found her MOH dress at JCPenney. It pays to check somewhere other than a bridal store!

Score! That’s awesome!
I looked at all sorts of stores after deciding that “bridesmaids” dresses would probably be waaay too expensive for my bridesmaids who were all broke students. We ended up finding the perfect dress at Fairweather! I was so happy and they looked great at the wedding (I just got my photos back and am reliving it all)!

Very nice pick, I couldn’t do it though – doesn’t look to supportive of the larger busted :)

We chose jcp. They were beautiful and affordable and easy for out of state bridesmaids to get…….win-win!

@MzJynxie: It’s actually surprisingly supportive! The dress has lightweight cups, and you can wear a convertible bra with one strap on it, which helps a lot.

@ScottishMrs: The best part of department store dresses is that you can use a coupon!
