Wedding Bands!

October 11th, 2012 @ 12:44 pm by Mrs. Gray Wolf

We tried ‘em on. Woo! We went to David Yurman a few days ago and looked at their rings. Even though I have a Yurman engagement ring, there’s no reason I must get a Yurman band—but I wanted to. I like that they’d match, and it will be easy if we ever need anything fixed or cleaned or replaced or whatever, to go through a major brand name. I forgot to take pictures of the rings on us, because I’m a terrible blogger, but here’s what we looked at.

First, Wolfman, option one:

He tried on basically the most simple designs they had. I think we both favored this design (which would be platinum—for some reason I couldn’t find a picture of it). I like that it’d sort of match my ring, and the rep at Yurman mentioned that it’s less prone to show scratches because of the cable design.

Option two:

Almost like the one above, flipped inside out. Inexplicably, this one is more expensive than the cable one (maybe more metal? I don’t know), so I think overall he’ll end up getting the top one.

Now me, Option A:

I tried this on because it sort of matched the small diamonds in my ring, but it didn’t really sit well against the cable design of my band—the straight edge didn’t match up with all the curves in my engagement ring.

Option B:

This next one, I love. It’s what I’ve been picturing—mostly because I can turn my engagement ring so the diamond is in my palm and it looks exactly like this band (anyone else do that?). It fits perfectly with my engagement ring. It’s pretty simple—thin and dainty—and I like it on its own too.

…well, then I tried this one, Option C:

This one is actually designed to go with my ring (instead of Option A) so it fits really snugly against it…and it’s so sparkly! There are so many little diamonds that it was catching light everywhere. I really, really liked it too.

BUT—it’s over FOUR TIMES as expensive as Option B. And that’s a lot. It definitely sucks to have to weigh in budget for a wedding band. It seems like it would be one of the things you do splurge on. I don’t want to close the door on the option, but I do think I’ll end up doing Option B just because of money. I guess another perk of having a brand name ring is that it will be easy for Wolfman to upgrade or add rings (lots of Yurman stuff is meant to be stackable—hint hint, Wolfman). So I’m not too bummed about not getting the blingy one.

What do you think? Are wedding bands something to save on or splurge?

LOVE that ring! Something about the twist design gives it more interest than the diamond band.

SPLURGE! You are wearing it every day for the rest of your life. If you can afford it, I’d say go for it.

You shouldn’t go broke over it…but at the same time it IS supposed to symbolize forever and out of your wedding it is the only thing (other than the love and commitment of course), tiny as it is, that you will take from the wedding and keep on you every day (as opposed to your bouquet, your dress, etc etc etc) so I personally think if you’re going to splurge anywhere, and you can make it work financially, it should be the rings! But that’s just me :)

It was a splurge for us!

I’m a serious Yurman addict and Mr. Mink has given me a piece for each birthday/holiday for years. I thought it’d be so cute for his wedding band to be Yurman (his first piece), but he wound up liking something else.

I LOVE all of these pieces!

Oh, and we were under-budget on our rings. There were a couple of rings I really liked that were over-budget, but I refused to splurge because I knew I could find something I liked a whole lot that was within our price range. I get that you’ll wear it forever so you have to like it, but for us, it wasn’t a priority because there are so many gorgeous pieces out there.

We definitely splurged. It’s the one thing you wear every day, so the cost is effectively spread over a really long time. I think if you can afford to, spend the extra money. We’re not really counting the rings in the wedding budget, because we don’t see them as ‘wedding’ paraphernalia, but rather ‘marriage’ paraphernalia.

The bling is beautiful but I really like option B and if it matches your ring, then is perfect.

I love all of those designs, so gorgeous! We definitely splurged by getting all platinum (which is ridiculously expensive, yo), but it’s worth it since we wear them all the time.

Hmm… I would say splurge, but I also really like option B. So maybe option B for now, and splurge on the other one for a 5 or 10 year anniversary? Mr. O got mine as a set, so thankfully, I never had to choose a band. Phew!

Both rings are beautiful, but I say splurge and get what you really want! It’s such an important piece of jewelery you want to make sure it’s something you love! We kind of splurged on our bands and I can’t wait to wear mine!!!

Those are lovely bands! I love the twisty one!
We tried our best to save on bands. My hubby picked a tungsten band that was $400 at the store and we bought it at e-weddingbands.com for $95 (got the idea from Mrs. Wizard). He loves it. For mine I just wanted a simple 3mm, 14K white gold, comfort fit band and we chose the least expensive one we could find; which was at Peoples. My e-ring is from Ben Moss.

I also absolutely love the wedding band Rachel McAdams wears in The Vow. That twisty band of yours really makes me think of her leafy band. I originally wanted the ring she wears, but that was way too expensive and didn’t come in white gold (sad face). I really like my band though. It’s just how I always imagined a wedding band to be (except better because it’s white not yellow).

We actually went budget-friendly with our rings, though I initially figured, “screw it, let’s splurge!” Turns out we didn’t need to splurge- we have very simple, traditional taste when it comes to jewelry, meaning I didn’t want diamonds on my band and he didn’t want anything complicated on his. Simple = not-so-spendy, so we lucked out with beautiful, budget-friendly rings that are EXACTLY what we wanted!

Our bands weren’t as expensive as they could have been too. The Mr. Went more traditional and my custom one wasn’t more than the others I didn’t like as much. I say ok to upgrade or double up your band down the road.

I would say go with B and then ask Mr Wolfman for C for your first anniversary or child! That way you get the best of both worlds whilst not killing your band budget now!

When I first started reading this post and started scrolling down and saw the rings I thought “oh she definitely has to go with option B.” But then I saw option C and honestly it’s just so beautiful! If you can splurge then I say go for it girl! And if you can’t well hey, option b is just as beautiful!! I’m sure either will look beautiful with your e-ring. :)

I love Option C! So beautiful and sparkly! I say definitely splurge. I know we did. We decided when we did our wedding budget the areas where we wanted to save and the areas we wanted to splurge on. Rings were one of the splurges. This is the ring you will be wearing for the rest of your life.

I love B and C. Sorry I’m of no help! We didn’t really splurge on our rings, although we could have. My ring is a Valina, which I guess is a “famous designer”, but I know nothing about jewelry, so I’ve never heard of this person. Anyway, my ring is very intricate, think 3 loop infinity knot with pave diamonds. So when it came time to pick out our bands, I looked at the ring that was “made” for my ring, and it was too much bling. The band fit into my engagement ring perfectly (duh) but there was just too much sparkle. Not to mention that it looked lopsided with a band only on one side. What we ended up doing was just getting a plain, simple, while gold band and the jeweler actually carved the band so that it would fit perfectly with my engagement ring. I absolutely love it! It almost looks like a crown when it’s not up against the engagement ring. I can’t wait until I can wear it! hehe
