Mrs. Gloves's Picture
Mrs. Gloves, Columbus, Ohio Age and Occupation: 25, Executive Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Firefighter Engagement Date: December 29, 2011 Wedding Date: January 2013 Venue: Cathedral ceremony, reception in a converted hardware warehouse About Me: I’m a blond-haired, blue-eyed Midwestern girl, who had grand plans of an international career, before the economy came crashing down right as I graduated college. I love travel, exploring other cultures, cooking for friends and family, and relaxing in a pedicure chair. My fiancé is the perfect, level-headed and logical counterpart for my impulsive tendencies, and the nicest person I’ve ever met. Lately, we like to spend our time renovating our new home, planning our wedding, and fitting in date night with friends. We are so looking forward to a wedding weekend jam-packed with all of our favorite people, plenty of food, and flowing champagne!
About Mrs. Gloves

Hive, two more important things have been accomplished by McGlovin this week: he finally asked his friends to be ushers, and he chose the men’s attire. Yesssss…

The usher selection is a minor accomplishment—there were three guys that he had to cut from his groomsmen list, due to sizing issues, and so we knew that we would ask them to be ushers. It just took six extra months to have that communication with them. So…check. mark.

The menswear, though, is a huge success! When we first started planning, I had this image of a fall wedding (crazy beautiful) with guys in charcoal suits and other yummy goodness. McGlovin had a very traditional, black-tie wedding in mind, tuxes and everything. (He said the next time he could wear a tux was…never…so he wanted to dress up.) When we looked at dates, we realized that a winter wedding would work out best, and I started warming to the idea of a more formal wedding. Even so, I was still thinking gray suits to go with the ladies’ black dresses…so pretty, right?

Then, I started to love everyone in black…a few people tried to suggest that it would look like a funeral, but I think it looks amazing. But, I was still stuck on suits. For one thing, I feel like tuxes always remind me of prom, and no one wants their wedding to be prom. But, moreover—some suit stores are always running those “buy one, get two free” deals, and the guys in our party are all suit wearers, so if we could get everyone a great deal on a new suit, why wouldn’t we?

But then we actually went to a few stores. The suit deals weren’t really that great, except for one place. But, when we went in…it was truly the worst customer service ever. We explained that we wanted to potentially buy eight or ten suits, which you would think is a sales incentive, and the sales guy could not have cared less. We expressed a few preferences (easy things, like flat-front pants and side-vented jacket) and he just stared at us. Even though it was a store full of suits, he took us over to the computer, because it was “easier to choose preferences on a screen.” Uh…OK?

When McGlovin asked to see a jacket that we were being shown on a computer screen, the sales guy flounced up and HAD TO PUT HIS SHOES BACK ON (don’t worry—he explained that his feet were just really sore…disgust) and brought a jacket back over. McGlovin took it and asked where the mirrors were, and the guy seriously said, “Oh, we’re trying it on?” Um, yeah, asshat, we’re going to try on a jacket before we purchase ten of them, if that’s OK with you? And then I left, because I truly have no patience for people who are potential recipients of my dollars but could not care less about customer satisfaction.

From Men’s Wearhouse (but with regular tie)

Anyway, to get to the end of this long story, we ended the day at Men’s Wearhouse. They showed us their tuxes and told us that, once we gave the groomsmen our group number, everything would be handled. Great—all I want right now is prettiness and simplicity. McGlovin selected an incredibly dapper Calvin Klein number (two buttons, flat slacks, vested with a European tie, in case you’re interested) and put down a deposit, and we were on our way. I cannot believe that we wasted so much time when the tux option was so simple!

How was your search for men’s clothing? I’ve heard, from more than one person, it’s almost worse that finding your dress! What do you think?

It was unbelieveable easy, we visited 2 places and Mr. Toadstool liked a tux in the second place. I was thinking about getting a vest and tie custom made to match our colors but he liked one they had there and next thing I know he was paying the deposit. Easy peasy.

That sounds awful, I would have left! But, at least it’s all taken care of.

Honestly, the easiest thing is just to rent tuxes. By the time you factor in alterations, buying suits is just freakin’ expensive, not that renting a tux isn’t, but it’s better. Plus they don’t have to worry about like, spilling drinks on it or anything. The thing is, you need to be incredibly careful about picking them up, on time, preferably as soon as they come in, and the boys need to put on every single piece, in the store. Things happen, mix ups happen, and the only way they can be fixed is if you try on every piece of the tux in the store as early as humanly possible.

Ew, I hate poor customer service. I would’ve walked out the moment I noticed he wasn’t wearing shoes!

Ours was simple because my fiance alraedy had a suit guy as he needs them for work! I am sorry you had such poor customer service, and I hope the guy gets paid on commison and missed yours big time because of his care less attitude!

We had a similar experience at one of those big stores. Ended up getting 5 suits at Kohls for a much better deal!!

My fiancee bought the same tux! I’ve heard some complaints about Men’s Warehouse, but we have had to go back there several times due to having 3 weddings within 6 months of each other (fiancee is in ALL of them) and we have had fabulous service every time we have gone.

We picked the exact same tux– down to the vest and tie. Trust me, it looks FABULOUS in wedding photos. We got my husband a platinum vest and tie to stand out and that was amazing too. MW worked out great.

When it comes to Weddings, IMO Tuxes rock !!
First off there is the fact that you can get everyone into the same thing… same colour, style, and size… and you can often do the fittings in different cities easy enough (using places like Men’s Wearhouse / Moores).
Then as pinkfrog said there is the “security” in knowing that at the end of the process, the Tux just goes back to the store… no worries about drycleaning (that spilled drink) etc. or the HUGE outlay of cash that typically happens when buying a suit (not so great when a young man doesn’t see himself wearing a suit again any time soon)
NOT TO MENTION… that men in Tuxes look HOT !!
Pictures come out great… and it is always fun & romantic in the years to come to rent a Tux again for a Special Occasion… certainly can spark the ROMANCE, if you know what I mean. ;-) *wink*
