Mrs. Otter's Picture
Mrs. Otter, Indianapolis, IN Age and Occupation: 22, Freelance Social Media Consultant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, CVS Shift Supervisor Engagement Date: November 11, 2011 Wedding Date: April 2013 Venue: Mustard Seed Gardens About Me: I'm a born and raised Hoosier girl, but a diehard Michigan Wolverines fan. I have a tendency to take too many photos and spend full days having TV marathons. Mr. Otter and I met in high school, started dating a couple years later, and moved in after a month of being official. He is easygoing and makes plans on a whim, while I'm color coordinating my planner and organizing everything in sight. He hates glitter, but it's my favorite thing. I have tattoos and he still won't get one, despite my attempts to convince him. We're planning a small, rustic, and (hopefully!) peony-filled wedding to get our married life started. (And yes, there will be glitter involved!)
About Mrs. Otter

I’m pretty obsessive about things, in case you haven’t figured that out yet. Even down to the smallest things, like my nail polish. So my nails for our wedding day are no laughing matter—this is something I’m actually putting thought into!

The facts:

  • I am obsessed with nail polish.
  • Oh, and with painting my nails.
  • And with getting shellac manis, because they are the best.
  • I’m also extremely indecisive about little things. Normally when I’m trying to pick out a nail polish color, I make Mr. Otter come in the bathroom with me and I give him options and he chooses. I almost never use the one he tells me to but, hey, at least a choice is made, right?

If you guys don’t believe me about my nail polish obsession, take a look at my current collection:

Personal photo / Now you can see how serious I am!

So for the wedding, there are going to be a ton of details that nobody but us cares about. One of the ones I care about is my nail polish color. Why? Because I always notice everybody else’s and I’m well aware that even years from now, I’ll probably notice what color my nails are in our wedding photos.

Thankfully, though, this decision isn’t the hardest—they’ll be shellac, for sure, so I don’t have to worry about chips happening. But what color? The options are: a basic black (my favorite color) or something similar to the sadly discontinued OPI Mod About You. (Just FYI: you can still get Mod About You on eBay!)

Hi, I'm Melissa and I Am Obsessive. : wedding beauty indianapolis OPI Mod OPI-Mod

My favorite color is black, and it matches everything, so it’s no surprise that black is in the running. But the pink matches our overall color scheme for the wedding. So which to choose?

I (obviously) need opinions. Thoughts? Though, fair warning, I may just decide and then you’ll be like Mr. Otter wondering why you gave me input to begin with. ;)

The pink is so gorgeous! I like black and wear it often, but it doesn’t feel very “wedding” to me. I was going to wear french fake nails for my wedding because I have very short nails but I forgot to put them on in the hustle and bustle of the day and ended up with just natural nails. I couldn’t wear pink because our colours were rend and black with white accents.

My vote is for pink!

They are both great colors. I wore a sparkly red by Sally Hansen called red carpet (our wedding colors were red, black and ivory) and I was so happy with it :) They came out great in our pictures!

I’m another polish-obsessed one! I have over 200 polishes LOL, but really need a new way to organize them!

I don’t know if I would personally wear black on my wedding day, but if that’s who you are and what you like, I’d say go for it!! I would probably end up with something close to what you chose! I like Essie East Hampton Cottage, and Essie Pink-A-Boo!

Go with your gut…if black is your color then do that! I LOVE dark nails..for some reason I feel like pinks/reds are so “girly” and don’t represent my personality.

I say – go for black!
‘Lincoln Park After Dark’ has been my color since it was released, it’s my signature color, so that’s what I wore for my wedding day.
The pink is pretty, but everyone does pink and if nails are your thing, go for what’s YOU :)

What about an accent nail? You could do the pink on all the nails and just a couple of black rhinestones on the accent nail. Have you heard about nail stamping? There are endless options if you go this way. A really pretty lace stamp in black over the pink would be amazing, or something that matches your dress.

My nail obsession has become rather dangerous. To the point that I have a nail blog and just entered a contest. I’m sure you have good internet sites for nail stuff, but for the more nail art stuff (studs, rhinestones, stamps, etc) I have found bornprettystore.com is pretty good. No, I don’t work for them, they are in Hong Kong (so orders take about a month). Where did you get the nail polish rack?

I think we might be twins! I have one of those acrylic polish organizers too (and paint my nails about 3 times a week!)!! The pink is beautiful! I just tried OPI’s “My Very First Knockwurst” from their German collection and loved it. Just a thought :)

BrookeBQ & ScottishMrs: I definitely love that the pink is very bridal, AND it goes with our colors. My only concern would be not being able to find it (or something similar) in CND Shellac. EEK!

glitter-girl: Thank goodness I’m not the only one! My shelf was made to hold 200, but I recently got rid of a few that I didn’t like when I wore them. Gotta ask my dad to build another one! Haha

rachiecakes: Lincoln Park After Dark is one of my absolute FAVORITE colors! I like the pink, but I think if I go shellac, it has to be black. :)

Alleycat & Condensed_Milk: That was actually a Pinterest project! Search for “nail polish rack” and it’s the very first pin. :)

capergrrl: I’m loving all the votes for black nails!

I love that you want to wear black- that is a very bold choice and will definitely stand you out in a crowd!

I have non wedding related (but is nail polish related) question: can you pull off having your nails painted all the time? I ask because I wish I could, but after a few weeks of having painted nails, they eventually start to peel and I have to give myself a long break — like, several weeks. it is way too long to go with out having polish on my nails! what do you do to keep your nails healthy?

I am also obsessed with nail polishes! I love the idea of black. On your big day, I think you should go with what makes you feel best. For me, that would be a bold color like black.
