Mrs. Gray Wolf's Picture
Mrs. Gray Wolf, Washington DC Age and Occupation: 26, Business Development Executive Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Research Scientist Engagement Date: November 11, 2011 Wedding Date: February 2013 Venue: Whittemore House About Me: I'm an ultra-organized, pun-loving, list-making, cheese-enthusiast bride-to-be. Although my day job is in cubicle land, I'm happiest in the modern art wing of a museum, having recently earned my Masters in Museum Studies. Shortly after a chance meeting five years ago, I moved in with Wolfman and haven't looked back since. We love music, movies, TV, and all things pop culture; we have an unspoken competition to be the first to share the latest YouTube sensation or indie song. Together, we've filled quite a few pages in our passports, but also love quiet nights in with a Game of Thrones marathon and our French Bulldog, Tonks (Harry Potter, anyone?). I'm planning a small, cozy winter wedding---think mercury glass and candle light---in the heart of DC. Our venue is a historic home with a lot of political charm, but needs a bit of work to be wedding-ready.
About Mrs. Gray Wolf

On Registering

October 16th, 2012 @ 6:39 am by Mrs. Gray Wolf

I haven’t really blogged much about registering, but I figured I’d mention it since it has definitely been one of my favorite parts about planning a wedding. And not for the obvious reason—picking out stuff other people are going to buy us (though of course that’s a little bit of it). I keep checking on my registries, editing the lists, looking at everything together…just because it’s fun to plan for our future household. It may seem sort of silly—picking the forks we’re going to eat pasta with doesn’t necessarily equate to a lifetime of togetherness—but it’s been weirdly romantic to put the two together. Plus, even though we’ve lived together for YEARS now, we have never really shopped for this type of stuff before. We just both brought crappy college stuff to the relationship, so this is the first time we’re getting stuff expressly ours.

Here’s where we registered and a few of our favorite items:

Crate & Barrel

This was a no-brainer because there’s one a block away from our house AND from my office. They have pretty much everything we want with enough choices to be fun, but not overwhelm. Plus, there’s an app! Some stuff we like…

Hayes 4-Piece Place Setting

Our current plates are an amalgamation of Walmart and Home Goods pieces that are starting to warp and stain in really…gross interesting ways. I cannot WAIT to have cohesive, quality stuff. I love the slate color and how sturdy these are.

Boulder 5-Piece Placesetting

I love the round stems and hammered metal. Kinda matches our plates now that I think about it.

Olin Grey 25″ Floor Pillows

We live in a teeny apartment, and floor pillows are great for adding seating if we need it without taking up space. Problem is…we’ve just been using regular pillows for it and they’re getting beat up.

Le Creuset French Oven

Another thing about Crate & Barrel? they have Le Creuset. Registry hallmark.

Target

We picked target as our secondary registry for one main reason:

Keurig Home Brewing System

Honestly, if C&B carried a Keurig, we might have skipped the Target registry altogether, but they also have some items that are just plain cheaper at Target (pots and pans, blenders, that kinda thing).

Anthropologie

Anthropologie’s registry isn’t really a true registry—it’s a wish list that people can order online from, so if they purchase in store, the item won’t be automatically removed from the list. But, in case you’re not aware, they have some of the cutest home goods ever—at price points that do get a little high if you’re purchasing on your own. But in my experience, people like to gift you with these types of things as they seem more “fun” than a set of plain sheets. Some examples from our list:

Celestial Coaster Set

Painted Amaryllis Butter Dish and Spoon Rest

Mountain Peaks Bath Basket

See what I mean? All these things would add a little bit of interest (and color!) and I’m really excited about them. Don’t get me wrong—some of Anthro’s stuff is really silly (a $250 cutting board! a $600 quilt!) and thus probably not the best fit for a registry (at least not for this wedding), but I definitely recommend making a list there if you like that style at all.

Honeymoon Fund

We’re also setting up a honeymoon fund for anyone who would prefer to do that (once we pick a destination, of course). We don’t anticipate getting a ton from it—we have enough need for registry items and enough items listed—but even a little bit could make a big difference. Plus, I guess it’s a fun way to tell your guests what you’re planning to do on your honeymoon.

Do you think four registries is too much—even if they’re not that long? What are your “registry hallmarks”?

I love those dishes and just went on the site to look at them and saw they’re being discontinued in January 2013. :(

I have 4 registries because some things you can only get from certain stores. One of our registries is Sandals, they let you register for the extras like excurstions and other special treats from the resort. If you decide to go that route it’s worth looking into.

How are you setting up the honeymoon fund? Jar on the table or something online? We were thinking about doing this but wern’t sure how to go about it.

@Highness: we’re doing a honeyfund! http://www.honeyfund.com/ super easy, just connects to your paypal and you can itemize things like “dinner and a bottle of wine” “couples massage” etc etc

A word on the Anthro registry — I did the same thing and it ended up being a total pain in the butt. They have this weird thing where if someone buys you one of the gifts, it doesn’t show up as bought on the registry. People had to call customer service to get it marked as bought and they were kind of weird and rude about it. And I ended up getting some duplicate gifts. You’re probably better off doing a Registry360 and just adding stuff from Anthro.

omg great pics! I love anthro and was wondering if they had some type of registry… fiance hates it though so I’m thinking I might not get away with registering with monogrammed mugs and everything else that could possibly have our initials. Can’t wait to register… besides wedding dress shopping it may be the BEST part of the planning process!

I wish C&B had an app when we were registering! Mr. PaC wouldn’t let me register at Anthro unless he could register at Home Depot or Lowe’s. :-/

We registered for the same place setting! I love it! We also registered at Anthro through the Amazon universal registry! It’s great!
