I like to plan things, so this wedding’s my dream project---I just need to remind myself from time to time that I’m the bride and not just the planner. I recently realized brown’s my favorite color as I was trying to incorporate it in every aspect of our wedding and I'm dreaming of an autumn vibe since we don’t have that around here. I’m marrying my best friend and partner in crime on the day of our nine-year anniversary! He’s an awesome, smart, fun guy who is patient, and crazy enough to spend the rest of his life with me. We’re planning our not-so-dreamy dream wedding in December in a non-traditional way and making it our own.

On Making Paper Flowers (Part 2)

October 17th, 2012 @ 1:30 pm by Mrs. Toadstool

Once I figured how to use the flower tape from hell, I decided to try Martha Stewart’s crepe paper flowers. Her flowers look really cute and it worked wonders for Mrs. Unicycle.

I tried to make a peony. Martha’s tutorials are very simple: use the template to cut the petals, using floral tape attach the bud to the wire, and attach one petal at a time, wrapping the floral tape.

Surprisingly, this was very easy for me. I started wrapping the tape (after learning how to use it) from the bottom of the stem, finishing at the top and wrapping the bud and then the petals one at a time.

I ended up with this:

And I love it! I also tried this little unidentified flower:

And a rose, that didn’t turn out that well:

Overall I’m pleased; I’m OK with having a bouquet made purely out of those little jane-doe flowers and peonies; they actually turned out better than I thought.

What do you think, hive? Any suggestions?

I think the peonies and jane-does will be just fine…wouldn’t it be funny if that name caught on

they look great! I don’t know if I ever mentioned this in the blog, but I doubled the number of petals for my roses. They basically ended up looking identical to the peonies then, except rose petals were a lot easier to cut out! The roses in the Martha tutorial were too small and pathetic for my taste.

I really like your flowers! Not sure I’d change anything.
