Dressing My Gals

When it came to dressing my best girls for our big day, I knew early on I wanted them to pick dresses in the same color and fabric but in varied styles that would best flatter their figures. Of the colors existing in our wedding palette, having my girls wear a vibrant shade of purple seems like the best choice. Jewel tones typically look the best on all types of skin tones, and I feel like a bright splash of purple in our wedding party will be a nice, colorful touch and will go especially well with what we have planned for the groomsmen to wear.

I was almost immediately drawn to the styles and colors provided by Dessy, and when I saw the Alfred Sung line, I knew I had found the perfect solution to my bridesmaids’ attire. Because my girls are kind of all over the place right now, I created an account on Weddington Way, added some especially adorable Alfred Sung dresses to my “favorites” list, and invited all my girls to log on and rank the ones they liked the best. Wanna see what they chose?

bridesmaidpicks

Alfred Sung styles D492, D445, D488, and D480 from Weddington Way (compiled by Miss Armadillo)

From left to right, that’s Lil Dillo’s pick, BM Mascara’s pick, BM Dancer’s pick, and MOH Henna’s pick. I think the girls all made fabulous choices, and I can’t wait to see these dresses in action come March!

When it comes to the color/fabric, I’ve ordered a dupioni swatch in “Dahlia” and a peau de soie swatch in “Paradise” to see which looks best. I’m currently leaning toward the dupioni just because I love the shimmer it has and the way it looks in pictures, but it’s hard to tell until I’ve seen the fabrics and colors in person. I’ve got my fingers crossed that they look just as good in real life as they do on my computer screen!

Are you letting your girls pick differing dress styles in the same color and fabric for a semi-mismatched look, or are you having them all don the same fabulous frock? Anyone else going with the Alfred Sung line? If so, what has your experience been like?

Yep. We went with Dessy, and they choose different dresses (in the same color, navy.)

I did DB’s (ugh) in the same color and they chose different dresses. I loved the look! I wore an Alfred Sung dress in a wedding earlier this year though and loved it.

We are doing pretty much the exact same thing, only my girls are wearing Barcelona (a deep red). I have 4 girls, and I let them pick their own styles.
I was leaning toward peau de soie, but when we went to try them on in person, the peau de soie had a weird sheen to it, like iridescent, almost.
We ended up going with dupioni.
The dresses are all exceptionally well-made too.
Do all your girls have pockets? Mine were VERY excited about the pockets! LOL

My bridesmaids wore Alfred Sung in black dupioni silk and they looked fantastic. Good choice!

Love Alfred Sung!! My girls are wearing d516 in Midnight (Navy). Just beware… the a-line ones are SUPER puffy! I loved it online, but in person it was just too dramatic. Best of luck :)

I had to comment on this post since I did the SAME EXACT THING!I am choosing the purple from the Alfred Sung line! I created a Weddington way account, and wanted the mismatched look, but it turned out all of my bridesmaids ended up liking the same dress! So no mismatch dresses for me =( I have to say, though, my bridesmaids actually got to try on the dresses at the Weddington Way showroom (I was not able to be there). They took lots of photos and the dupioni looks much better, and they all unanimously liked the dupioni fabric better.

Make sure that if you use the Dupioni that you have a steamer on hand the day of..Once they sit down for a period of longer than 5 seconds, the dupioni wrinkles a little bit. :) LOVE dupioni so much though!!!!

Dessy is the best, I pretty much love all their lines. They have almost all styles, fabrics, and colours/patterns you can think of.

I love the Alfred Sung collection, I want them all for myself. I was so sad when I found out it’ll cost a small fortune and a big pain in the behind to get my BMs dresses from that collection.

I let my girls choose their dresses as well (DB Wisteria). Two of them ended up picking the same style, but I wasn’t really suprized since they have similar builds and the same taste in clothing :)

I did the same thing – loved using Weddington Way. They all picked totally different dresses but i had them get the same color/fabric. I am happy that they all love their dresses. 3 ordered form bridal stores, 1 ordered form Weddington Way. WW was a little difficult because they didn’t place the order right away – I had to call and tell them not to wait for all the bridesmaids and just submit the one. Some of the bridal stores were pissy that the dress was being sold online – apparently the contract with Alfred Sung keeps small stores fromselling online.

I love the dresses they picked as well and I’m using Weddington Way! My fiance and I have recently decided that the wedding will be black tie so I’m thinking my ladies will end up with long dresses.

My girls are doing Alfred Sung dresses in dupioni in quarry (gray). A word of warning – my youngest sister apparently ordered a size bigger than she should have and the pockets are making the alterations much more expensive that I would have expected. Hopefully they will turn out great though!

These are awesome choices. I love when their are similarities in bridesmaids dresses to tie them together but different styles so suit each girl.

@Reeniero: Three of the four have pockets and they were totally psyched about it! Haha!

@GreatGatsbyGirl: @MeganRae1230: Thanks for the words of warning! We might have to weigh the skirts down for awhile in the closet or something to avoid the stiffness! And hopefully we won’t need many alterations!

What a gorgeous colour you have chosen! All four dresses are gorgeous but I especially like the second one!
