Mrs. Armadillo, Houston, Texas Age and Occupation: 23, Graduate Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Armed Security Officer Engagement Date: September 28, 2011 Wedding Date: March 2013 Venue: First Presbyterian Church/Bay City Civic Center About Me: I’m an oldies-loving, board game-playing, coffee addicted fine arts junkie from Southeast Texas in pursuit of her master’s degree in communication studies who met the goofy, strong, artistic, and unexpected love of her life in the beautiful piney woods of East Texas. Serendipity threw us together again and again (and again) on our college campus before we eventually stuck, but when we finally did submit to destiny, we hit the ground running and never looked back! We’re planning a religious, small town, budget-friendly, DIY-infused “winter becomes springtime” ceremony and reception to celebrate the beginning of our lives together with the people we love the most, and are pouring our hearts and souls into making sure our wedding represents us as a couple down to the nitty gritty details and balances tradition with the quirky individuality that is uniquely and unequivocally “us”!

Suit Up!

October 19th, 2012 @ 6:15 am by Mrs. Armadillo

Since I’ve shared what I’m hoping our girls end up donning on our big day, I feel like it’s only fair to share a few of the details I’m hoping to incorporate in our dudes’ ensembles. I think it’s safe to say we’ve settled on gray tuxes/suits, but should we go with a light gray or more of a charcoal color?

Currently, I’m leaning more toward the lighter gray, just because I think it would work better with the silver/wintery aspect of our winter-meets-springtime theme. However, no matter what our guys end up wearing, the last thing I want is for them to look like cookie-cutter versions of each other. After all, my girls will be rocking the mismatched theme, so why can’t the guys join in on the fun? Enter the mismatched tie.

I think this is a perfect way to let the guys have a little individuality while still looking cohesive, and I’m super pumped! I think Mr. A and I will end up gifting the groomsmen their ties so that we can make sure they’re all similar shades of green, and so far, I’m really fancying these:

Mr. A will set himself apart visually by donning a snazzy purple tie that matches the color and fabric of the bridesmaids’ dresses (which Dessy conveniently makes easy to do).

For the ushers, I’m kind of thinking a multi-colored tie would really pull everything together and be pretty visually striking. However, I haven’t been able to find a tie that includes JUST shades of purple, green, and silver. This one is pretty cool, though, and I don’t mind that random orange pinstripe too much:

I’m starting to get really excited about seeing elements of this wedding finally come together, and I think our guys are gonna look extra classy!

What are you having the dudes in your wedding party wear? Do you like the mismatched tie concept, or do you prefer your wedding party members to wear more similar ensembles?

Ooooh, love all your tie choices! I think Mr. A should wear the multicolored tie. I really like it.

Love the ties! And I love the Vera Tux, maybe because that’s the one I chose for my guys! My girls are in chocolate brown, and putting a black tux next to that just looked horrible, so, enter the gray! It looks great with chocolate brown vests, and ny FH will look adorable with the jade vest and tie to match my dress.

Can’t wait to see what you pick!

LOVE that tie for the ushers! I think the orange stripe is a nice visual complement!

@Mrs. Treasure: Ooh, I like that idea! I personally think the multicolored tie is fabulously snazzy. I’ll have to see what he thinks!

@ABoxForPandora: I definitely love the Vera one, too! I think I’ll ultimately let the guys decide, since I don’t have a strong opinion either way. :)

The CK tux is cheaper than the vera, but in person it looks.. odd.. like an old man should be wearing it. Not to knock anyone’s choices- I like both of them in photographs, but I REALLY like the vera in person.

Also, the vera is a little slimmer fitting than the CK one, so that’s something to consider.

@future_schu: Good to know! It’s kind of hard to decide before we see them in person, so thanks for the head’s up!

I’ve never seen the mismatched tie, but what a great idea!

LOVE the ties you’ve found, but agree with Mrs. T that the striped one should be for the groom. How about greens for GMs and purples (mismatched, of course) for ushers? Your ideas are coming together so well – can’t wait to see your recaps!

We did mismatched ties too. I like the darker suit, but it all comes down to personal preference!

I’m so excited about this post, Miss Armadillo! We were between the CK & the Vera Wang and went with the Vera Wang. Did you visit them in person? They look so different – what sold me on the Vera Wang was how lightweight it was. The consultant told me that she’s heard of the groomsmen & grooms stating that they kept their coats on all night simply because they didn’t need to take them off, which really appealed to my FI & I. Also, it’s perfect for a May wedding in western PA, when you can’t ever tell what the damn weather will be. I’m excited to learn what you pick!
