Mrs. Gray Wolf, Washington DC Age and Occupation: 26, Business Development Executive Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Research Scientist Engagement Date: November 11, 2011 Wedding Date: February 2013 Venue: Whittemore House About Me: I'm an ultra-organized, pun-loving, list-making, cheese-enthusiast bride-to-be. Although my day job is in cubicle land, I'm happiest in the modern art wing of a museum, having recently earned my Masters in Museum Studies. Shortly after a chance meeting five years ago, I moved in with Wolfman and haven't looked back since. We love music, movies, TV, and all things pop culture; we have an unspoken competition to be the first to share the latest YouTube sensation or indie song. Together, we've filled quite a few pages in our passports, but also love quiet nights in with a Game of Thrones marathon and our French Bulldog, Tonks (Harry Potter, anyone?). I'm planning a small, cozy winter wedding---think mercury glass and candle light---in the heart of DC. Our venue is a historic home with a lot of political charm, but needs a bit of work to be wedding-ready.

Bridal Shower, Part One

October 23rd, 2012 @ 5:12 am by Mrs. Gray Wolf

I had my bridal shower a few weeks ago…and it was amazing. I mean, any event focused on food, friends, and getting presents doesn’t suck, but my MOH did such an excellent job and I was overwhelmed by all the details and loveliness:

The whole setup!

A bellini bar (“Choose your fruit and your Brut!”) with Mason jars

Custom napkins with a nod to our love for music

Favor bags (filled with amazing soaps) in a travel-inspired case

Lemonade and water station—I spent more time near the bellinis.

Poms, baby’s breath, “LOVE” bunting, and a happy bride

By the time everyone arrived and I stopped being so overwhelmed by how amazing everything was, we had a DELICIOUS lunch from one of my favorite restaurants at home—chicken salad sandwiches on house-made focaccia, pasta salad, fruit, and caprese skewers. MOH K even remembered to get some potato chips because she knows how much I love to put chips on my sandwiches (anyone else do this?).

After that, it was game time. We played a Scattergories game—one of my favorites!—and MOH K made a custom version for the occasion:

Intense concentration

One of the funniest moments was during the first round, everyone read the first category correctly (“necessary trait for a spouse”) except for some reason, my mom and I BOTH read it as “necessary treat for a spouse.” So we were going around, giving our answers—“energetic,” “easy-going,” “enduring”—and then it’s my turn and I say, proudly, “egg salad!” My MOH, in her desire to please the bride, didn’t miss a beat and awarded me a point. Someone called me out pretty quickly, but knowing how serious MOH K and I are about Scattergories, I really appreciated her giving me some leeway. Letting someone have a free point in Scattergories—that’s real friendship. I kept a lot of the cards because they were so funny to go back and read—not to mention beautifully designed!

Next up—gifts!

@Anon: i’d actually seen and pinned that invite on my “paper love” board on pinterest a long time ago – that’s why my MOH recreated it for me – she knew i was a fan and the inspiration was letterpress and custom and wayyyy over the top expensive. i’m glad i got a version for me! :)

Theft is the sincerest form of flattery! I use inspiration for my work all the time – are there any TRUELY original ideas left? Way to put your own spin on things using ideas from others that you loved! I love love love the wedding scattergories and just might have to make my own version as well :) Beautiful Shower

I’m fine with taking inspiration and even theft and copying if it was to a limited audience like your shower, but your designer should absolutely not be promoting it as original work on her blog. It was definitely not altered enough to be original – there are too many major elements completely copied.
