Last Friday was very special at work; we were having cake for a coworker’s birthday, so that meant a couple hours of laughing and relaxing, which were more than welcome on a Friday evening.
While there I noticed a big package, which they quickly explained was a gift for the birthday boy. I got a bit mad about not being informed and not contributing to it, but they brushed it off by saying one of the girls was going to make a speech. So J stood up and started saying “We all know we’re here for G’s birthday, but we’re also here for…Miss Toadstool’s improvised bridal shower!” She then turned the package and showed me the front:
Isn’t it pretty? The best part about the packaging (better than that cute flower) is that they made it out of brown paper bags we use for samples—it’s all office supplies.
What? Is that for me? How could you keep that a secret?
Unfortunately (for the sake of pictures), that morning we decided the weather was bearable enough and turned the AC off, so I was a bit sweaty and messy, so excuse the unprettiness of the pictures.
I opened it very slowly, so I didn’t ruin the package.
It is a steam iron! Now this is not just practical, but it’s really sweet. A few months ago we were having some girl talk at the office and we mentioned those irons, and I said I really wanted one. Surprise, surprise! They remembered it and gave me one!
They also gave me a very cute and original card:

I got really emotional over this, and they haven’t stopped teasing me about my almost crying, but I’ll be leaving them in a few short weeks, since my contract ends in November, and this is a big reminder of why I like these ladies so much.
