Mrs. Gray Wolf, Washington DC Age and Occupation: 26, Business Development Executive Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Research Scientist Engagement Date: November 11, 2011 Wedding Date: February 2013 Venue: Whittemore House About Me: I'm an ultra-organized, pun-loving, list-making, cheese-enthusiast bride-to-be. Although my day job is in cubicle land, I'm happiest in the modern art wing of a museum, having recently earned my Masters in Museum Studies. Shortly after a chance meeting five years ago, I moved in with Wolfman and haven't looked back since. We love music, movies, TV, and all things pop culture; we have an unspoken competition to be the first to share the latest YouTube sensation or indie song. Together, we've filled quite a few pages in our passports, but also love quiet nights in with a Game of Thrones marathon and our French Bulldog, Tonks (Harry Potter, anyone?). I'm planning a small, cozy winter wedding---think mercury glass and candle light---in the heart of DC. Our venue is a historic home with a lot of political charm, but needs a bit of work to be wedding-ready.

Getting Made Up

October 24th, 2012 @ 3:07 pm by Mrs. Gray Wolf

Finding my makeup artist was super easy. Melissa of Kiss and Makeup had done my makeup for MOH K’s wedding, and I was super pleased with the result:

I experienced first hand how long my look would last, how it photographed, etc.—as well as just how nice and luxurious it felt to have my makeup done for me. Melissa was available for my date and lives close by—decision done. I even thought I’d skip a trial altogether, but Melissa recommended that I still do it—I knew I wanted a different look for my indoor, winter wedding than I had for MOH K’s summertime, outdoor affair, and she mentioned that my skin would be pretty different in February than in June. Here’s some inspiration pictures I’m bringing to the trial. First off, a smoky eye (definitely with some falsies):

Maybe a bold lip? This could be a fun way to bring in the coral color I like:

Maybe both? I feel like I can be a bit more dramatic with the makeup since we’re doing something indoor and at night—and you know, because I love makeup. I want it to pop, especially since my hair will be up.

What was your inspiration for wedding makeup? Did you want to look like your everyday self—or glam it up a bit?

I don’t want to be my everyday self, I want to be a glamed version. I wear natural colors on my everyday life and I want to look like I have make up on but in a light way, but I still have a trial to go through.

I like the idea of bold lips, specially if you can use your coral color.

I say go with both! And here’s a fun fact: two of the people in your inspiration pics have heterochromia. Both Kate Bosworth and Mila Kunis! (I looked it up after noticing it on Kate Bosworth).

OK I Must say, I LOVE that bridesmaid dress you’re wearing in that photo! It is absolutely gorgeous! And I agree with the PP’s, do both!

I wanted to look like me but then again any make up makes me look more glammed up than my everyday makeup free look.

My MUA did my wedding for bro and SILs wedding. MOH liked him so he did mine when I was her MOH. I feel vety comfortable with the look and how it will wear..

First, that top picture is totally adorable. Second, I love the dramatic makeup looks, perfect for a nighttime wedding. I say rock it.

Go for it! That’s the point of the trial. Tell her what you’re thinking and test it out. If you don’t love the look, then you’ll know how to adjust for the big day.

I must say that the ideas came from my make-up artist but photos, others brides come usually as inspiration.

I think you need to do one or the other, not both as I think it would be too much! Unless you do the smoky eye and then a muted coral lip (so not quite as bold?) Just my suggestions!
