Mrs. Hawk, Richmond, VA Age and Occupation: 26, Finance Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, District Supervisor Engagement Date: March 13, 2011 Wedding Date: May 2012 Venue: The Chapel of the Sir Christopher Wren Building, 2007 Legacy Hall About Me: I’m an Arizona-born girl who has spent the majority of my life living below the Mason-Dixon line. The South has definitely earned a special place in my heart (alongside my Virginia born and bred fiance, of course!). We are planning a traditional Christian ceremony at my alma mater in historic Williamsburg, Virginia, followed by a rocking reception filled with Southern cooking and vintage/shabby chic details. When we’re not wedding planning, we enjoy spending time with our three dogs, going for runs together, watching plenty of football (or baseball depending on the season), and sampling new wine.

Hawkily Ever After: Let’s Eat!

October 24th, 2012 @ 12:06 pm by Mrs. Hawk

Remember how I grabbed some bread ends at the hotel prior to the reception because I was so starving? Well, needless to say, sitting down to dinner was such a welcome treat. It was the first time I was able to sit back after the hectic schedule of the day and the first time I was able to get a good look at the reception hall. I could not have been more pleased.

Bucking tradition, Mr. Hawk and I chose to sit with our families at the head table, and I’m so glad we made that decision. It’s not that I don’t love my bridesmaids and groomsmen, but with my family traveling from California, I was so thankful to have those extra moments with my parents.

I vividly remember the conversations I had with Momma Hawk about the day, and our wedding party was able to mingle with their other friends. Plus I actually had the opportunity to eat.

I love the idea of sitting with your families! It would never have worked for us since both of our parents are divorced and re-married, BUT I LOVE that’s what you did!

We had a little sweetheart table, which was a good choice — except Mr. D kept running away to do things so I had a rotating group of people who came to keep me company, haha!

It’s more usual in the UK to have family at the top table than the wedding party. The traditional set-up goes Chief Bridesmaid – Groom’s Dad – Bride’s Mum – Groom – Bride – Bride’s Dad – Groom’s Mum – Best Man. We’re probably going to have our parents and brothers at the head table, but there’s a massive sticking point with Mr CL’s dad’s new wife…

Yum your food looks good!!! I had never thought about sitting with our families, but that’s such a nice idea. Our venue sets up a sweetheart table for us, so we’ll probably do that to keep things simple.

I love that you sat with your families! We did a sweetheart table, even though we only ate for about ten minutes so we could visit with everyone!

@Miss Buffalo: +1.

If our parents were still together, it would have been lovely to sit with them. Since both couples are divorced, however, we’re doing a sweetheart table.

We didn’t sit with our full bridal party, but we did have my MOH and his BM sitting with us- so it was just the 4 of us. and it was the perfect decision!
