Ring Talk: Part 2

October 26th, 2012 @ 1:07 pm by Mrs. Otter

So we already talked about Mr. Otter’s potential ring—I was surprised at the insane price difference! Now let’s talk about my pretty, shall we!? :)

* All photos are personal (thus the quality…sigh).

Ring Talk: Part 2 : wedding indianapolis rings IMG 071 IMG_071

This is my pretty, pretty baby. Now, unlike some people, I can’t tell you anything about this ring other than the price and (obviously!) the story of how I got it. I have no idea how many carats I have or how big the diamond is. In fact, I didn’t know the total price until I took over opening the mail. (I won’t say who…but there may be someone in this household that brings the mail in, sets it on the counter, and never touches it again. Again, I won’t say who…but only two of us live here.)

So I guess according to most, I’m a little backward in that I know the price and not any of the details. Oh well!

But moving on: the band. Prior to purchasing the rings, I had about a million ideas about what I wanted in my ring. First, I wanted one of the bands to be a different metal—vetoed, because we all knew I would get tired of it. Then I wanted one of the bands to cross—again, vetoed, because I realized no matter what kind of rings I got (exception being custom rings, of course) that the two rings would never sit flush against each other. Finally, I decided to go with the matching band to my engagement ring.

It’s not as yellow as I photographed it—bad photo!

But even with the gorgeous rings (!!!) there are still decisions to be made. The big one? To solder or not to solder.

The pro is obviously that my rings would be permanently fixed in the perfect, aligned position. The cons are more numerous. There would be damage to my ring, and once you put them together, you can’t ever really get them apart. Another issue—I know some people choose to wear their rings separately on occasion. I don’t foresee myself doing that any other time than being pregnant, and even at that, I wouldn’t wear the band alone because it’s cut to match the e-ring.

BUT…that’s a big foreseeable thing—because I do see us having babies. So if I’m pregnant and my rings are soldered, they may not be wearable. A big concern for me since we’re paying quite a chunk of change for my beauties.

More cons than pros, but of course that doesn’t mean I can make up my mind! ;) If you have an e-ring and band, what did you choose to do? Solder or not?

I love how they look. I wouldn’t solder them, you can always wear the band without the e-ring or the e-ring without the band, and if you eventually find you prefer them soldered you can always do it.

I had mine soldered so that they would stay in place and I also prefer wider bands. Also that will keep them from getting lost or having one slide off.

As for the wearing while pregnant, you may not be able to wear either band and will probably need to put them on a chain.

love your ring though.

I soldered mine shortly after my wedding. They didn’t do a great job of aligning the rings and not only did it look different because of that, but it also felt different! I tried to live with it for a week, but took it back. Soldering is reversible, so never fear if you end up not liking it. I had mine back to being separate in about 4 hours.

I wear my wedding ring solo most of the time and add my engagement ring when I leave the house or feel the need for some extra bling. I take my e-ring off because it interferes with household chores and crafting.

Love your rings!

I have a “semi custom” e-ring (meaning it’s tristed to look like a 3 part infinity knot) and the jeweler tried to sell me the ring that matched it. I just couldn’t do it! I know I’m going to sound insane here, but it was too much bling! So instead, we had them carve a very plain, white gold band to match the curves of my ring.

I’m not having them soldered, but I may at some point in the future.

I chose to solder mine together. The band of mine is cut to go around the (very wide) basket, so I could never have worn it alone. At first, the jewelry store soldered them together wrong, so there was a big gap between the bands, even though they were supposed to be flush, and I was so regretful that I wanted them soldered in the first place. But they re-soldered them and it looks infinitely better. I don’t regret the decision any more, and it’s nice that I only have to keep track of one ring and not separates. If I ever have kids, I’ll probably just get a cheapy fake band for pregnancy.

I wear the wedding ring only at home and add the e ring when I go out.

My rings are separate, and I don’t think I’d want to have them soldered (my own set, that is)! Once you start wearing the two bands together, you won’t notice that they are separate…at least that is my experience! I didn’t want to take any chances with having something go wrong with my rings…I’m paranoid!

I got mine soldered just because they were made to sit together and I wanted them to stay that way, The jeweler said that they can rub together and cause damage to each other when they are separate.

Sometimes it’s nice to just wear the wedding band…or split them up – one on each hand. (I wear mine on separate hands 99% of the time so committing to solder them together never occurred to me.)

Gorgeous ring!! I am not going to solder my rings because I LOVE my thin sparkly eternity band and I want to wear it alone sometimes :)

Such gorgeous rings! I never considered soldering my rings together because I take them off and separate them all the time :)

Lovely! I didn’t solder mine because I forsee only wearing the wedding band when we have babies because engagement rings sometimes have sharp bits which hurt babies. (And jsyk, the wedding band is supposed to be worn at the base of the finger with the e-ring on top so that the wedding band is “closer to the heart”. Not everyone does it though.)

I love your e ring! I would probably leave them separate.

Um, wouldn’t you take off both rings if you were pregnant? I’m pretty sure women removes ALL rings because of the possibility of fingers swelling, so the soldering wouldn’t matter. Scratching your baby with your diamond after it’s born, however, is a completely different matter.

your set is really pretty together. I personally don’t plan on soldering them together, mainly so I can have options with changing out the bands if I get tired of them and so I don’t need to wear the whole set together. You really can’t go wrong either way though

Gorgeous rings! I’ve chosen not to have a wedding band, jus my e-ring, plus I’m not married yet anyway, so I can’t really offer you any advice on the soldering thing. But I wanted to ask you… What is that nail polish?!?!? It is practically the perfect shade of green I am looking for for my wedding!!!!

Yeah I am getting mine joined! I have white gold and what my jewller told me is that they will rub and wear against each other and thats not a good thing. So I will be attaching them! I figure if my fingers swell when I am pregnant I won’t be wearing either and its only for 9 months!

I’m so happy mine weren’t soldered…being able to remove the e-ring for camping/swimming/dirty work but keeping the wedding band is the best.thing.ever. :) Mine looks very similar to yours, so of course, I think it’s beautiful!
