Mrs. Otter, Indianapolis, IN Age and Occupation: 22, Freelance Social Media Consultant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, CVS Shift Supervisor Engagement Date: November 11, 2011 Wedding Date: April 2013 Venue: Mustard Seed Gardens About Me: I'm a born and raised Hoosier girl, but a diehard Michigan Wolverines fan. I have a tendency to take too many photos and spend full days having TV marathons. Mr. Otter and I met in high school, started dating a couple years later, and moved in after a month of being official. He is easygoing and makes plans on a whim, while I'm color coordinating my planner and organizing everything in sight. He hates glitter, but it's my favorite thing. I have tattoos and he still won't get one, despite my attempts to convince him. We're planning a small, rustic, and (hopefully!) peony-filled wedding to get our married life started. (And yes, there will be glitter involved!)

Ring Talk: Part 1

October 26th, 2012 @ 6:41 am by Mrs. Otter

Ah, rings. Before I talk about my bling again (and trust me—it’s killing me to wait!), let me tell you something about the groom’s ring versus my ring: The price difference was insane. While we browsed men’s rings when we looked at engagement rings, we didn’t look at PRICE TAGS. So we were very pleasantly surprised to see the price tags on the men’s rings.

The designs, though…let’s just say some of those weren’t our style.

If one of these rings is the one for you—awesome! They definitely aren’t Mr. Otter’s style. He has a way more laid-back personality and enjoys clothing that is more timeless than up with the trends. (The man would dress in a suit DAILY if he could.) That’s what lead us to these rings as possible options for him:

These rings? Both less than $200. Crazy! Especially in comparison so my much more expensive set.

What do you think about grooms’ rings? And another question: Did you take your groom to try on rings? I know we’ll have to for sizing, but do they do the same as women and try on different styles?

Yes! Try on rings. It’s fun once he gets used to the idea.

Mine tried on a few rings and we were out of there in under 20 minutes, less than $200 poorer. It was amazing!

Um, I’m the complete opposite. My ring was white gold (to match my engagement ring) and as my husband chose platinum, and it was wider than mine, his was about three times the price of mine! But then he didn’t get an engagement ring…. :-)

I was surprised that my husband was actually kind of excited to look at rings for himself. He went with what he called the manliest ring he could find, which translates to very heavy, very thick, brushed tungsten. He’s now discovering that such a heavy ring is going to give him a callous!

His was more expensive than the original, very simple band I picked out, until I decided on a more blingy band.

What an awesome price! Mr. P wanted platinum to match my set and it was so expensive, at least it will last a lifetime :)

Wow – I’m humbled to be mentioned here along some great other blogs. It’s an honor to be listed among such wonderful writers. I’m off to add many of these to my reader so I don’t miss out on anything!

Yeah, we went to pick out wedding bands together and I was very surprised in his taste in bands. I think I said on another post that I thought all the decorative cuts on his ring were a little too ‘pretty’ for his hands. But if he likes it, that’s all that matters.
Oh, and I was also surprised at his expensive taste. His white gold ring was almost as much as mine (close to $800) and his had no diamonds!

Mr. Toadstool is not wearing a ring, but if I were to persuade him to get one I’m cure he’ll choose something plain and simple like those last two rings.

Who knew men cared so much about style? My fiancé looked at the plain, cool Triton rings and said, “Everyone I know has that same ring. Don’t buy it for me.”

So here I am, stoked that he actually gave an opinion about something. And frightening that I actually have to pick out a style!

Trying on rings is part of the fun. Seeing your guy’s reaction to it will be half of the fun! I thought Mr. PaC would pick a ring like your two traditional options, but he surprised me and went even more traditional.

Yeah, I’ve been very surprised at the prices for bands. It doesn’t seem like it should be that expensive. Oh well. PBear and I haven’t looked at bands yet, so I have no idea what he’ll pick. I really do like the bottom ones you picked though. hm… we might need to make a trip to Kays soon.

I like that black one! I was pleasently surprised about the price of bands as they were a lot cheaper than I budgeted! We both wanted plain and simple though!
