Today is the big day…I’m getting married! I feel calm, even after a horrid nightmare involving a vendor not showing up! It has been a long week filled with crafts and projects. I did have to prioritize and eliminate a few DIY elements, which killed me to do, but time was running out.
I’ve been overwhelmed by the love and support our families and friends have bestowed on us. Everyone has come together to share in our love and help us celebrate, and it means the world to us both. Hurricane Sandy passed by us and brought a lot of rain and wind, but the last two days could not have been anymore perfect, weather-wise. The wind is still blowing, but I’m just so thankful for clear skies that a little wind doesn’t even phase me. However, Sandy is heading up north, where a lot of our family traveled from and several guests already have had flights home canceled.
At the end of August, MOH S and I had our joint bachelorette-party weekend. Although, the concept was both of ours, S definitely did the bulk of the planning, and she is great at it! We decided to stay in town to make it cost effective, so we stayed downtown at one of the big hotels on the harbor. We rented a cabana by the pool for the day and invited all of our close friends down to celebrate with us. Saturday morning as I went to pick BMs J &T up, the weather was disgusting, and kind of discouraging to us, since we knew we were planning on sitting poolside all day. But by the time we went up to the room to change into our suits and returned to the pool, the sun was out and shining! Before we could go change, however, we had to give our lovely bridesmaids their favors! Here’s a photo of V, one of S’s bridesmaids, with hers!

After changing and returning to find sunshine, we officially started the party! People slowly started showing up and we lounged around the pool in true bachelorette-party style.

Oh man, y’all…this. I think Wolfman and I have talked about our first dance more than any other topic. More than food, the venue, the ceremony, everything. We both love music—it’s one of the things that brought us together—and with our first-dance song, we have this singular opportunity to pick a song that is “us.” Whatever we pick, we will sort of “own” forever—so we really want to get it right. Out of dozens of listening sessions to our respective iPods…here’s our top contenders:
[1] the xx, “Islands”
This song has a lot going for it. It’s a band we discovered together, have seen live, and (in my opinion) has some indie street cred. It’s short (good, because the actual dancing is something I’m not particularly looking forward to) and the lyrics work:
