About Mrs. Buffalo

Hay, You!

October 30th, 2012 @ 11:33 am by Mrs. Buffalo

There is one element of the wedding that I was SO excited for, yet in the end I had to be rational and ended up cutting. You see, thanks to the miracle that is Pinterest (seriously, as much as I love it, it can be DANGEROUS), I found inspiration in photos like these:

Aren’t they beautiful? They were definitely on the list of things I wanted for the ceremony. The problem is they were not necessarily the most cost-effective piece from my on-site rental company. It was a very difficult decision. In the end, it’s not like I would’ve been tacking on an extra couple thousand dollars, but it’s also not as cheap as just using the chairs I’m renting for the reception anyway. Either way, I incorporated them into our lounge area like this:

Was there something you wanted for your wedding but really didn’t need? How did you decide whether or not to do it?

Where did you get your haybales? I want to do a lounge as well…

I love how you used them as part of the lounge area!

A friend of mine found hay bales for like $4 each! I think it was $10 to rent, plus a $6 rebate when you returned them. Crazy, huh? She probably went through a farm rather than a rental company, though.

@carolyn.sp.79: My venue offered them as part of their on-site rentals! But I’m sure you could get them from farm supply, if your venue doesn’t have the option! (renting was easiest because they delivered them!)
@Mrs. Pony: Thank you! I can’t wait to get the photos of our actual lounge area (well I can’t wait to get all of the professional photos)! Once I saw that photo I was SET!
@MrsJJC: Yes! it was $10/bale for us to rent, which isn’t BAD (since they delivered them and everything) BUT when I factored it into the ceremony seating, I just couldn’t justify it for our 20 minute ceremony!

I went to a wedding that had haybales with no covers on top of them, and it was sharp and hurt! I saw sevearl ladies whose stockings had runs in them from the sharp hay. And, lots of people ended up with bugs on them.

Wow, they look amazing, it’s too bad you couldn’t have them, but at the end of the road we have to start being rational and only getting things that are actually necessary.

Yeah hay is good in theory but very prickly to sit on hehe! I am glad you had them somewhere even if it was minimal!
