Save the Date: The Stamps

October 30th, 2012 @ 9:46 am by Mrs. Otter

Hive, I never thought I would be that bride. That bride that cared about stamps. Especially the STD stamps! I just assumed that when people received our STD, they would note the date in their planner/phone/etc. and then toss the STD.

But then, there I was, standing at the post office to purchase postage and suddenly…everything seemed to be in slow motion. I watched as the employee pulled open the big binder of stamps. I watched her flip, flip, flip through the pages and start to pull out several pages. What did I see, you may be wondering? I saw these:

Save the Date: The Stamps : wedding indianapolis postage save the dates 2955449 2955449

Personal photo, unfortunately

I saw ALOHA stamps staring back at me. And a variety of Hawaiian shirts. Now, if I were having a destination wedding? Sure, toss the ALOHA at me. But for our rustic, romantic, light and neutral colored wedding? No. These simply did not fit the bill.

Slowly (and sadly) the post office employee flipped over our postcard and noticed that it was a save the date. She looked at me apologetically and said “this is all we have left.” With a heave and a giant sigh, I asked for the proper amount, paid, and pathetically exited the post office.

I know, I know—they’re just stamps! Nobody will notice! But I noticed, and they drove me crazy right up until I sent them. And now that I recognize that I do care about the stamps, I have to also consider what stamps we’re going to be using on our actual invitations…

Mrs. Genie cared about stamps. Miss Beanstalk cared about the stamps. So at least I’m in good company! Tell the truth: did you care about your stamps?

*Raises hand*
I cared about stamps. I ordered old ones from eBay and put several stamps on each envelope, and we got a lot of compliments on them! I agree, I would not be down with Aloha stamps for a rustic wedding.

Hahaha! We totally just used the Hawaiian shirt stamps. Yeah, they’re ugly…but I just didn’t care enough to put the energy into ordering a bunch of smaller stamps and/or getting ones from a site like Zazzle. I’ll probably care a lot more about the ones we put on our invites, though!

Oh yes, I cared about my stamps. Luckily we sent them out in January before the postage increase, so we got to use stamps with herbs on them. *hugs*

I trolled the USPS website for the perfect postcard stamps for our RSVPs and all they had was aloha, so I spent the extra $ and got the pretty wedding stamps (they are forever stamps) and used those instead. I’ve always cared about my stamps though. I kinda hate buying the boring ones when you can get awesome ones for the same price.

I cared about stamps and picked out cute ones for our invites… but I wasn’t about to pay extra for RSVP postcards, so we used the ugly Hawaiian shirts anyway. It was extra awesome because my husband HATES Hawaiian shirts — go figure!

We got the Hawaiian shirts too, I was a brat about it until I realized that… HEY wait a sec… That’s where we’re going on our honeymoon so drama solved for us!!! At the end of the day they are just stamps!

Miss Wallaby: That is totally my plan! Like Miss Armadillo said, these, I can suffer through. I cannot suffer through something similar on our invitations! I refuse!

Mrs. Bracelet: I’m green with envy right now! The aloha… just sigh.

Highness: I’m the same way with normal stamps, so I don’t know why I thought that when it came to wedding stamps I just wouldn’t care. Sigh. Lesson learned!

MrsJJC: Aww, your poor hubs! I feel his pain though. ;)

I cared about the stamps so much I was on Zazzle for 4 days straight until I found the perfect wedding ones.

This is too funny; ALL they had for my STD’s were the aloha ones also! I got ‘em anyway. No one REALLY cares, when you think about it.

Heck yeah I did! Not as much for our STD’s but definitely for the invitations.

Since that’s the only postcard stamp they had, I put the Aloha stamp on my vintage postcard STDs :( I’m hoping they change them by the time my invitations have to be mailed, since RSVPs are a postcard.

yeah I care way too much about stamps. Even for my christmas cards, I couldn’t stand to do the aloha stamps. I eventually picked out a 29 cent stamp and I’m pairing it with a 3 cent stamp. I know no one else will notice, but damnit, I hate those aloha stamps

I care about stamps too! So much so that I’m considering ordering some online because I’m sure that this would end up in the same situation! Probably only we’re the only ones looking at the stamps. I opened a wedding invitation last month, and I can’t for the life of me recall what the stamp was like…

Haha, I feel your pain, because the SAME thing happened to me just last week! As soon as the lovely post office worker handed the horrible Aloha stamps to me, I had a minor panic attack, but when I showed them to my fiance, he laughed hysterically, and we just decided to go with it. And guess what? NO ONE has mentioned the stamps, and I’m pretty sure it’s because no one even noticed. Although I do think I’ll plan ahead a bit more for the invitations!

I cared about stamps!

Thankfully, Canada Post has had some *really* cute stamps lately. I was lucky enough to use their baby wildlife collection. The standard stamp had two white baby bunnies kissing on it. The US/oversize stamp was a baby fox, and the international stamp was a baby polar bear! All so adorable!

I bought two sets of Forever stamps: the ‘Celebrate!’ ones and the classic wedding roses. We used the ‘Celebrate!’ ones for the Save-the-Dates and we’ll be using their leftovers for the response cards. We’re going to use the wedding roses for the invitations themselves. I totally cared about the stamps, but only enough to not want ‘regular’ Forever flags. I could never deal with multiple stamps, the price changes, etc.

I’m so sorry about the Aloha stamps. :( So unfair.

Aw, man, I’m actually thinking about getting some Aloha stamps now before they are gone – but we got engaged in Hawaii, so I thought it might be a cute touch to reference that on the STDs. No one would probably notice, but I would!

I’m in the kind of care about stamps camp. I haven’t yet sent anything, though, so it might change drastically still!

Nope. My rsvp postcards have the Aloha stamps on them. Our invitations have the bonsai tree ones, which I need to pick up more of. But if all they have left are the liberty bells or something, I’ll be okay. No one is even going to look at the stamps.

*raises hand* I had my first full-on bridezilla meltdown over stamps for our StD’s. FI was completely on board with the idea of ordering specialty stamps for the invites, but figured people would just throw away the envelope for our save the dates. I’m the girl that double-checks the stamps that couples put on all their correspondance (including Christmas cards). He put his foot down and suggested we just use the American flag stamps you can get at the grocery store.

I cried. A lot. There might have been some dramatic hand gesturing. And then a week later, specialty stamps for our StD’s depicting our wedding destination arrived in the mail from Zazzle. I have only a little bit of shame. ;)
