I shared with you the story about Mr. B’s wedding band, and my paranoia after my order was in, but I never shared my actual ring tale! Let me give you a little background info first. Getting wedding bands was something we kept putting off and putting off because we always felt that we had so much time to do it (that was kind of the theme with most of our wedding planning)! However, just because we waited awhile, didn’t mean that we didn’t do our homework! I spent quite a bit of time scouring the internet looking for the perfect band to accompany my heirloom engagement ring.

This was taken with my phone on my Birthday, right after Mr. B proposed! Shortly after this, we went to have it sized and have the prongs replaced.

My engagement ring is very classic. It’s a delicate yellow gold band with a round diamond in the middle (I really don’t know how to describe diamonds so please bare with me). This ring belonged to Mr. Beanstalk’s late maternal grandmother. Even though I never met her, we still have quite a bit in common. We attended the same art school and had a shared passion for children’s book illustration (she was actually a published children’s author/illustrator)! I love my ring and couldn’t have asked for anything more!

With that said, finding a band was hard! Sure, I found a TON of gorgeous wedding bands (I was especially drawn to floral and vine-like designs), but none seemed to compliment my ring. I tend to like unique styles that just seemed to be a bit much for my ring. Another problem: it’s really hard to find unique yellow gold bands! Everything is either white gold or rose gold. I knew I wanted my band to have diamonds, which seemed to make my search even harder (solid yellow-gold bands are much easier to come by).

Mr. B decided early on that he didn’t want a yellow gold band, he’d prefer white gold (or some other none yellow metal, see my jewelry jargon is very bad). He also wanted something a bit different, and found it in the beautiful hammered rings we stumbled upon while searching the net! He knew what he wanted, but I still had no idea!

Fast forward a few months, Mr. Beanstalk heard about a wedding band event at a local Boston jewelery store, where there would be contests, different vendors and tons of rings! We thought it might be fun and decided to go! I had checked out this jeweler’s website before we went and was pleasantly surprised by their band selection! I have to say, the selection at the store did not disappoint! There were so many rings to look at!

When we first walked in the store, we were greeted by several employees and asked to fill out a document. They then asked us what we were looking for and matched us up with a salesman who would be showing us around. Mr. B actually knew the man helping us (he helped him pick out my Birthday present a few weeks before)!

When I was asked what exactly I was looking for, I was honest, I had no idea! I told him I wanted something simple to compliment my engagement ring and that I was hoping for an eternity band. After searching and trying on several rings, I found it! The most gorgeous diamond eternity band! It neither too big nor too small. It fit perfectly with my engagement ring! Only problem, they only had it in white gold for me to try on (however, it could be ordered in the yellow). I then asked if they had another one of the exact same ring for me to try. I love the look of staked rings and not so secretly wanted to achieve this look with my wedding band(s). They had another, and I tried them all on (one wedding band on either side of my e ring). The look was breathtaking! The two bands really complimented my engagement ring!

As much as I loved the look, I was torn on what color metal to get. Even though the white gold looked really good with my yellow gold e-ring, I still didn’t know what to do (I never had thought of getting anything but a matching metal)! Should I get my band a different color? Mr. B said he actually preferred the look of the white next to my ring because it toned it down. I, surprisingly, tended to agree with him. I tried on two different yellow gold eternity bands with my e ring to see how it would look and it just seemed too loud.

Our salesman told me to wear the rings while we focused on Mr. B and see what I thought afterwards. I did this and fell completely in love! I didn’t want to take them off! Luckily I got to wear them for awhile as Mr. B tried on different hammered bands. The last ring Mr. Beanstalk tried on was the one he got! It was a stunning hammered band outlined with tiny striped indentations (see, how bad my jewelry talk is?). The ring was made by a company in Switzerland and is crafted by a computer, which we thought was really cool since computers play such a huge role in Mr. B’s job! Another deciding factor in choosing this particular band, he said it was the most comfortable one he tried on!

So Mr. B had his and ring and I had mine (both of them)!! I decided to go with the white gold and I couldn’t be happier! I never thought I’d be a mixed metal bride, but I have to say the look really works!

When we purchased the rings, I had every intention of wearing the bands on either side of my engagement ring, however during our ceremony, when Mr. B slipped the rings on my finger, I fell in love with the look of the two rings stacked and then my e-ring (side note: I left my e-ring on my left hand for the ceremony because my ring doesn’t fit on my right hand). I also like what our Bishop said…the wedding band represents our love, so we should place the two rings on the inside of the e ring, that way they will be closest to your heart!
