Mrs. Toadstool's Picture
Mrs. Toadstool, Obregon, Mexico Age and Occupation: 23, Research Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Sales Manager Engagement Date: October 1, 2011 Wedding Date: December 2012 Venue: Hacienda los Agaves About Me: I’m a born and bred Mexican girl with a severe coffee addiction, an obsession for books and an aversion for exercise. I like to plan things, so this wedding’s my dream project---I just need to remind myself from time to time that I’m the bride and not just the planner. I recently realized brown’s my favorite color as I was trying to incorporate it in every aspect of our wedding and I'm dreaming of an autumn vibe since we don’t have that around here. I’m marrying my best friend and partner in crime on the day of our nine-year anniversary! He’s an awesome, smart, fun guy who is patient, and crazy enough to spend the rest of his life with me. We’re planning our not-so-dreamy dream wedding in December in a non-traditional way and making it our own.

On Procrastination…

November 14th, 2012 @ 6:36 am by Mrs. Toadstool

Remember how I talked about getting an engagement shoot? and even asked your opinion on where to have it? And never mentioned it again? That is because we haven’t had it yet, but since we’re getting married in about a month (!) I think it’s time.

OK, the thing about our engagement shoot was that we never found time. We booked our photographer in March and next thing we know it’s already May and it’s so hot outside that we’re sure we’ll end up looking like a hot mess (got that?) in our pictures. Our problem was we didn’t just postpone the shoot, but we postponed booking the shoot (procrastinator!) and once I talked to Alberto, it was too late. September marks the start of wedding season around here, and Alberto had every single weekend booked from October to December.

So, we needed to do it on a weekday, which proved to be quite difficult. My work doesn’t allow time off and since Mr. Toadstool lives out of town, he needed a day he could sneak out of his job duties. That left us with a Tuesday in late November (it was meant to be a Monday, but it turned out to be a holiday so we just moved it one day) just a couple of weeks before the wedding.

I guess it’s weird to say we’ll take our engagement pictures a couple weeks before the wedding day, but since we didn’t send STDs or put up a wedding website, we didn’t feel the need for those pictures during the planning process.

I really want these photos, mostly because I want some nice pictures of us other than wedding pictures. I think I won’t value them as much at first, since they’ll come almost at the same time as wedding photos, which (let’s be honest) will feel more important at the time, but eventually I’d want some nice casual-looking pictures of us, not just wedding photos.

I am so recreating that last picture, just look at that view!

Did you procrastinate any important wedding related task? How long before the wedding did you take your engagement pictures?

I procrastinated on our pics as well, and then we got busy with other things. I really wanted a fall engagement shoot but that didn’t happen. We are finally taking our pics this weekend, 9 months before the wedding. Now it’s in the 40s and cold. We had snow flurries Monday, so I’m hoping the weather cooperates because i really want to be outside!

I love that last picture, so gorgeous! Our friends waited to do their engagement pictures right before the wedding and they turned out amazing, so I’m sure yours will too!

Have you considered getting them done after the wedding? Just a love shoot? That might be easier to arrange since you’ll both be in one place.

The pics are beautiful. We got engaged in April and a family friend who is a professional wedding photographer agreed to do the pics for us as a gift. But I put off the pictures until Fall to give myself time to tone up a bit. I really wanted outdoors and we did them last weekend since it was nice and in the high 60′s here in Cincinnati but I kinda wish we did not put it off considering that early Fall has beautiful leaves and such.
I agree with Mrs. Genie with photos after the wedding. My guy and I already decided to do it at the start of each season during our first married year.

I think engagement photos are such a great way to capture you and your fiance’s love (I love photography and was super excited for our shoot)! If you feel too stressed getting the pics done before the wedding, I like Genie’s suggestion of doing it afterward (unless you’d be using the same photographer… then I say do it now, that way you can really get to know your photographer and feel comfortable with them)!

@Mrs. Genie, keytabell: we actually already booked it but I want to use it as an ice breaker with our photog, that’s the actual name he gives to these kind of shoots ;) .
