Mrs. Dragon's Picture
Mrs. Dragon, Sioux Lookout/Brockville, ON Age and Occupation: 24, Journalist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Graphic Designer Engagement Date: August 22, 2011 Wedding Date: September 2012 Venue: Mother of the Bride’s Residence About Me: I moved to Northern Ontario for a job, expecting to be single for the year I'd be there. Within one month I was dating a co-worker, and now, more than two years later, we’re planning a wedding and I’m still a Northern girl. I’m a reporter and a photographer for a small-town newspaper, and I get to do all kinds of fun, exciting, and sometimes weird things at work. When I’m not getting the scoop, I’m cooking, adventuring, playing with our three black cats, or blogging.
About Mrs. Dragon

I’ve always loved seeing these posts from other Bees. (Mrs. Pony, Mrs. Funnel Cake, Mrs. Honey, Mrs. Pin Cushion, Mrs. Turtle, Mrs. Peep Toe, Mrs. Pretzel, Mrs. Cardigan, Mrs. Sand Dollar…the list goes on and on!)

I made my inspiration board after we had a lot of our details in mind, so I’m not surprised that it matches up quite well. Here’s my original, pre-wedding board:

And here’s what our wedding looked like:

[All photos except for the straws by Rozy Seitz (I took the straw photo)]

Pretty close, right? There are a few differences, though. The flowers turned out more orange-y, the ceremony area ended up looking different with the small tent in place, and the cake is way off (but cute, and tasty!). I don’t actually have any good close-ups of the bunting or the photos, but our tent turned out way less bunting-y than my inspiration.

You can’t really see the straws on my board but they were yellow-striped, just like my inspiration! I pulled the colour swatches on the bottom directly from the images in the board.

What do you think, Hive? Close or not quite?

I love how your wedding ended up: it’s similar, but I definitely think it’s even more cohesive than the inspiration (I like your cake better for instance, and I think the pops of orange in your flowers look great!).

This is really great, I love seeing how a vision comes to life! Could you share where or how you made your board? :D

I’ve enjoyed your blogging!

@sarah: Thanks! I dragged all of the images into Photoshop — but I think Picmonkey is an online service that’s easy to make collages with! I use it for my personal blog sometimes.

I love how everything turned out, similar, but with your own touches and warmth!

You nailed it! But I like the real thing (your board) the best since it is a snapshot of a true wedding. :)

I really love the inspiration versus reality posts too. I really, really, really should put together an inspiration collage so I can do this post in the future

Wow you really translated your vision into something very awesome! I am so terrified that I will fail at realizing my vision, especially since it’s so difficult to imagine all these little pieces fitting together cohesively. You did an awesome job.

@Mrs. Pony: Yay! I’m glad we were close!
@Mrs. Pain au Chocolat: I always like the actual wedding boards better, too. ;)
@Mrs. Scepter: No problem! I love them too.
@Miss Panda: Do it!!
@Miss Camel: I was worried about how it’d all look too, but it’s surprising how well it came together — I think you’ll be just fine!

Pretty close. And I must say I like some of your details better, your mocasines, the straws, the string jar, the bouquet…
