As soon as we were home from the wedding and honeymoon, I ordered our thank you cards. I really, really wanted to get them done and over with as soon as possible.

I ordered the Bridal Trio White card from Shutterfly, personalized with our initials and photos, of course. Note how it says M&S, not S&M (victory is mine!).
I know many people don’t send thank you cards to people who didn’t give gifts, the idea being that the reception is the thank you in that case, but we decided to send a card to every person who was at the wedding, along with people who weren’t in attendance that gave us gifts.
Why? Because we told our guests not to get us gifts! That, and they all had to travel to our wedding (which was why we discouraged people from spending even more money on us) and that in itself was a gift. Yes, people still gifted us. Nearly everyone gave us cards. People drove, took the train, paid for hotel rooms…it felt like all of our guests really deserved a personal thank you from us, so that’s what we did.

I loved Mrs. Fox’s idea of including photos of each guest in the cards, and we had enough awesome photos to do the same. I also slipped a photo request card into most of the cards (our guest photo site went tragically unused).
As for how we divvied up card-writing duty, I was really insistent that Mr. Dragon fill out the cards for guests from his side of the family and people that are specifically from his friends group. I tackled cards for all of my friends and family, and our mutual guests (and all of our friendors, though those were separate cards handed out at the rehearsal).
Both of us have horrid handwriting, and Mr. Dragon was really not keen on filling out his half, so it was kind of painful to get them all done. I hammered all of mine out in a matter of a few evenings, but Mr. Dragon dragged on and on and on. He even tried to bribe me to complete his half (which was actually less than the number I had to do)! Eventually he got into a groove and finished a big chunk of them in one afternoon.
In the end, we sent all of them out about two months after the wedding. It felt like a really long time to me, but I think it was actually a reasonable time frame. It felt really, really good to cross another wedding-related thing off of my ongoing to-do list! Now, to order a wedding album and finalize my name change…yeesh.
Did you split thank you card writing duty?
