About Mrs. Dragon

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

November 27th, 2012 @ 11:23 am by Mrs. Dragon

As soon as we were home from the wedding and honeymoon, I ordered our thank you cards. I really, really wanted to get them done and over with as soon as possible.

I ordered the Bridal Trio White card from Shutterfly, personalized with our initials and photos, of course. Note how it says M&S, not S&M (victory is mine!).

I know many people don’t send thank you cards to people who didn’t give gifts, the idea being that the reception is the thank you in that case, but we decided to send a card to every person who was at the wedding, along with people who weren’t in attendance that gave us gifts.

Why? Because we told our guests not to get us gifts! That, and they all had to travel to our wedding (which was why we discouraged people from spending even more money on us) and that in itself was a gift. Yes, people still gifted us. Nearly everyone gave us cards. People drove, took the train, paid for hotel rooms…it felt like all of our guests really deserved a personal thank you from us, so that’s what we did.

I loved Mrs. Fox’s idea of including photos of each guest in the cards, and we had enough awesome photos to do the same. I also slipped a photo request card into most of the cards (our guest photo site went tragically unused).

As for how we divvied up card-writing duty, I was really insistent that Mr. Dragon fill out the cards for guests from his side of the family and people that are specifically from his friends group. I tackled cards for all of my friends and family, and our mutual guests (and all of our friendors, though those were separate cards handed out at the rehearsal).

Both of us have horrid handwriting, and Mr. Dragon was really not keen on filling out his half, so it was kind of painful to get them all done. I hammered all of mine out in a matter of a few evenings, but Mr. Dragon dragged on and on and on. He even tried to bribe me to complete his half (which was actually less than the number I had to do)! Eventually he got into a groove and finished a big chunk of them in one afternoon.

In the end, we sent all of them out about two months after the wedding. It felt like a really long time to me, but I think it was actually a reasonable time frame. It felt really, really good to cross another wedding-related thing off of my ongoing to-do list! Now, to order a wedding album and finalize my name change…yeesh.

Did you split thank you card writing duty?

I remember seeing the S&M is one of your recaps and thought that maybe Canadians didn’t know what that meant, haha! Glad it was cleared up. My first name begins with an S and my fiance’s with an M, so I’ll be conscious of making sure any initials will be M&S. :)

My husband kept saying he wanted to help write them but then wouldn’t. When we took them to the post office Saturday I told him he still had time to jot stuff on the envelope if he wanted and he busted out laughing. LOL We took about 2 months too almost.

Those cards are fabulous! Is the bigger pic you two with your awesome program newspapers?

@Pinkmoon: Ah, well that’s only fair! :)
@ilikeballet: Haha, no, we definitely know what it means — Mr. Dragon just enjoys being silly. :P
@SuperDuperBrit: I think we still actually have about four sitting in the house because Mr. D has yet to finish them… sorry, four friends!
@Blonde17Jess: Thanks! It’s actually us with the newspaper each other works at!

I actually am not letting DH write any of them since his writing isn’t exactly super legible. He didn’t really want to write them anyways. I get him to sign every single one though.
I wish I had thought of putting photo sharing cards in the thank yous.

I love how your cards turned out! I wrote all of our thank you cards because Mr. P never writes enough and would have procrastinated until I did his share anyway :)

I thought I would end up doing most of them, but my husband was actually impressive good at writing thank you cards, which was really great! And don’t worry, I’m 6 months after my wedding and haven’t finalized the name change… Why do they make everything such a pain?
