Mrs. Boa Constrictor's Picture
Mrs. Boa Constrictor, Isabela, Puerto Rico Age and Occupation: 22, Undergraduate Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Soon-to-be Civil Engineer Engagement Date: May 19, 2011 Wedding Date: May 2012 Venue: El Faro Convention Center About Me: I’m a Caribbean gal, born and bred on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, finishing her last year as an undergrad. I describe myself as a “closet nerd” as I secretly enjoy reading research papers, playing video games, and geeking out on Lord of the Rings movie marathons. I will marry my college sweetheart, a soon-to-be civil engineer, who loves Legos and old-school Puerto Rican cooking. This is sure to be a fast-paced year with our wedding, honeymoon, college graduation, new jobs, and a cross-country move all within less than 30 days of each other!
About Mrs. Boa Constrictor

I arrived at the church early and, after two drives around the block to kill time, we finally stopped right in front of the doors of the church. As I sat in the car speaking with the priest who would marry us (whom I had never met because the priest who was supposed to marry us had to run off to another commitment), I saw some nervous conversations going on.

Finally Papi Boa mustered up the the courage and said three little words to me: “Photographer isn’t here.” This was a surprise since we had all left my parents’ house, which is 10 minutes away from the church, at the same time. I stepped out of the car, Google searching the photographer’s phone number on Papi Boa’s cell (because I of course did not have my phone) and dialing it on Lil Boa’s cell simultaneously.

When the photographer picked up the phone, I learned that she was headed toward our reception venue, thinking that we were holding our ceremony there. As I quickly corrected her, I could feel her heart sink through the phone; she was so sad and apologized about a thousand times during our 30-second conversation. She asked for us to stall 15–20 minutes until she could get to the church. Through it all, I surprisingly maintained a very calm demeanor. I was still in that happy daze from that morning, marveling that I would soon be married to the love of my life. Not even a missing photographer rattled my resolve.

I made a decision; I decided to start the ceremony without the photographer there. We had 70-plus starving guests sitting in a church at nine in the morning, a priest getting nervous because he had a communion ceremony at 9:30, and a reeeaalllllyy tight timeline because of our flights to Rome. Making the decision to go ahead seemed like a no-brainer. So I hung up the phone, turned around, and told everyone to take out their iPhones ’cause I was getting married.

I’m soooo glad that we didn’t choose to have an unplugged wedding because all those cell phones and point and shoots blocking the aisle saved some irreplaceable memories on film. Don’t be mistaken, I love our choice in photographer and would book them 100 times over—it was a true delight to work with them. They did make it to our ceremony, just missing my walk down the aisle. They also more than made up for the slight misunderstanding by taking AWESOME pictures, which we love, and giving us a much welcome surprise later in the day.

Oh My God. That’s like one of my worst wedding fears! Good for you not letting it derail you, and thank god you got some pro pics of the rest of the ceremony. I would have probably broken down into tears there and then.

Wow that’s REALLY sucks. I feel like latinos are always late to stuff or forgetting where/when/how things are happening. I just don’t get it.

Also, you had a wedding at NINE AM!?? Maybe that’s why your photographer was late…I’ve never heard of such an early wedding.

@ginabride2bee: “I feel like latinos are always late to stuff or forgetting where/when/how things are happening. I just don’t get it.”

Whoa. Seriously? Rethink that comment.

Also, who cares what time the wedding was scheduled for? It’s not like it’s the bride’s fault that the photographer mixed up the locations.

Way to roll with the punches, Boa! I probably would’ve shed a tear or two. I’m happy they made it later, though.

@ginabride2bee: That was an incredibly rude (not to mention racist) thing to say. You should be ashamed of yourself.

@ginabride2bee:

Precisely none of that was helpful, useful or acceptable.

Oh wow you have such wonderful family and friends! Guess what? Our photographer had a glitch too where she nearly lost the photos she had taken at our ceremony! She made up for it by staying extra at the reception!
