Mrs. Gray Wolf's Picture
Mrs. Gray Wolf, Washington DC Age and Occupation: 26, Business Development Executive Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Research Scientist Engagement Date: November 11, 2011 Wedding Date: February 2013 Venue: Whittemore House About Me: I'm an ultra-organized, pun-loving, list-making, cheese-enthusiast bride-to-be. Although my day job is in cubicle land, I'm happiest in the modern art wing of a museum, having recently earned my Masters in Museum Studies. Shortly after a chance meeting five years ago, I moved in with Wolfman and haven't looked back since. We love music, movies, TV, and all things pop culture; we have an unspoken competition to be the first to share the latest YouTube sensation or indie song. Together, we've filled quite a few pages in our passports, but also love quiet nights in with a Game of Thrones marathon and our French Bulldog, Tonks (Harry Potter, anyone?). I'm planning a small, cozy winter wedding---think mercury glass and candle light---in the heart of DC. Our venue is a historic home with a lot of political charm, but needs a bit of work to be wedding-ready.

On the Menu

December 6th, 2012 @ 10:40 am by Mrs. Gray Wolf

We made our food decisions a while ago, but I realized I never blogged about that process. It was right after we secured the venue, and I only contacted a few caterers because I was still a little frazzled from my “gotta catch ‘em all” approach to the venue hunt. All of them except for one required a signed contract to schedule a tasting. I couldn’t believe that—what’s the point of the tasting then? It sucked but I completely wrote them off for it.

Amit from Spilled Milk Catering not only offered a tasting before we signed—he came to our house to do it. He heated up some stuff in our oven and left a bunch of leftovers. And it was GOOD. So good.

We didn’t really have any ideas about what should be on the menu. I love food—like a lot—and I guess you could say I’m an equal opportunity eater. So, I care that what we serve is delicious, but I don’t care that it’s anything specific, if that makes sense. So we just said “whatever most people like” and Amit brought over a sampling from the menu we ended up crafting.

Passed appetizers:

Buffalo chicken wontons served with a spicy buffalo blue cheese sauce

Mini grilled cheese sandwiches served with creamy tomato soup shooters (I’ll never get tired of these.)

Confessions of a Bookworm

December 6th, 2012 @ 9:01 am by Mrs. Wallaby

It’s no secret that I am a huge bookworm. I listen to audio books to pass the time on my commute to work, and I have somewhat of an obsession with F. Scott Fitzgerald and other Jazz Age writers. For Christmas last year, Maid of Honor N gave me an A Tree Grows in Brooklyn tote bag for grocery shopping. I would say that my general philosophy in life is this:

Confessions of a Bookworm : wedding decor houston GetThat GetThat

Sorry, Mr. K. Good thing the Beast is fictional. :) /  Photo via Books Direct

Mr. Wallaby doesn’t exactly share this interest. He loves to read—about technology, cars, and current events. I don’t think he would be caught dead curled up on the couch reading Jane Eyre. So it wouldn’t exactly be fair to have a major book/library theme at our wedding. Too bad, because I have a large enough book collection to easily create a whole ceremony backdrop:

Mrs. Cauldron's Picture
Miss Cauldron, New York City/Austin Age and Occupation: 33, Human Resources Fiance's Age and Occupation: 33, Technology Engagement Date: October 8, 2011 Wedding Date: September 2012 Venue: Pecan Grove at the Salt Lick About Me: I grew up in the Lone Star State, but moved to NYC after college to get a taste of the Big Apple, and never left. I love baking, yoga, Mr. C, and sunshine (not necessarily in that order)! Mr. C and I met on Match.com back in 2007, and our second date was at a Texas barbecue restaurant in Manhattan. It’s only fitting that after almost five years together, we are getting married at an iconic Texas barbecue joint. (Shiner Bock and brisket, anyone?) I’m proud of the life we have built together around our love for each other, Mr. C’s crazy dog Bosley, and fun sailing adventures on our boat, and I’m looking forward to celebrating our marriage at one seriously awesome party in September.
About Mrs. Cauldron

After a nice drive out of Austin to Driftwood with my girls and my mom, we made a quick stop to pick up my wedding dress from a friend whose house is pretty close to Pecan Grove (thanks PJ!) Shortly afterward, we pulled into Pecan Grove, met up with our photographers, and headed inside to the bride’s room to finish getting ready.

The florist also arrived shortly after we did, and when she brought the bouquets into our room, I started crying happy tears! They were so beautiful, and exactly what I’d hoped for. (More on the flowers later!)

Miss Camel's Picture
Miss Camel, Athens, GA Age and Occupation: 29, high school teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, high school teacher Engagement Date: March 2012 Wedding Date: May 2013 Venue: Cloverleaf Farm About Me: I'm a high school social studies teacher who started her career teaching English in Japan with the JET Program. I love photography and history. I also like to travel and take naps---two things that you would think contradict each other, but somehow they don't. My heroes are Dwight Schrute, Liz Lemon, the Dude, and T.E. Lawrence. I traveled the world throughout my 20s only to fall in love with the social studies teacher in the classroom next door to mine. He just happened to be the kindest, most compassionate, and selfless person I had ever met and each day I'm so thankful to have him in my life. We are planning a whimsical, relaxed countryside wedding with a little Marie Antoinette flair thrown in for good measure. Please join us on our wedding planning adventures!

DIY Ombré-Dyed Fabric

December 6th, 2012 @ 6:16 am by Miss Camel

Recently I set out to create an ombré-dyed fabric ribbon display for our engagement shoot later this month. Because that is what crazy brides do these days. I also want to use it as some kind of backdrop at the wedding and possibly for our engagement photos. Here’s the inspiration:

Seriously, when did ombré become a thing? Because it’s apparently a thing now, and now I need it and I don’t know why. I also know that I want to try and recreate the last photo (seen above) for our engagement shoot, so sign me up for some ombré. But instead of the chandelier, I’m thinking of something more practical like this:

Mrs. Dalmatian's Picture
Mrs. Dalmatian, Nashville, TN Age and Occupation: 23, Pediatric Nurse Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Computer Engineer and Entrepreneur Engagement Date: April 13, 2011 Wedding Date: May 2012 Venue: Historic Cedarwood About Me: I am a Northern girl from Chicago who is planning a wedding filled with Southern charm in Nashville, Tennessee. I love dogs, the White Sox, Full House reruns, and anything with ruffles on it. Mr. Dalmatian is my computer-genius problem-solving fiance who is constantly teaching me new things and making me a better person. We live with our adopted pup Echo, who is very excited that his parents are getting married!
About Mrs. Dalmatian

Having the major sweet tooth that I have, I knew that we would be jumping on the trend of having a dessert option at our wedding in addition to our cake. After a significant amount of research (I think at one point “wedding frozen yogurt bar” was my most popular google search), we landed on mini gourmet ice cream sandwiches. As if I wasn’t happy enough when I saw the adorable cart that the Sugar Wagon offers, I was completely sold after we had our tasting with them. I nearly melted when I tried the gingersnap cookie with lemon ice cream. That immediately made the menu. We also went with chocolate chip with salted caramel ice cream (their staple) and brownie with peanut butter ice cream for my chocolate and peanut butter loving hubby.

Needless to say, I was very excited when the sugar wagon pulled into our reception.
