Mrs. Gray Wolf's Picture
Mrs. Gray Wolf, Washington DC Age and Occupation: 26, Business Development Executive Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Research Scientist Engagement Date: November 11, 2011 Wedding Date: February 2013 Venue: Whittemore House About Me: I'm an ultra-organized, pun-loving, list-making, cheese-enthusiast bride-to-be. Although my day job is in cubicle land, I'm happiest in the modern art wing of a museum, having recently earned my Masters in Museum Studies. Shortly after a chance meeting five years ago, I moved in with Wolfman and haven't looked back since. We love music, movies, TV, and all things pop culture; we have an unspoken competition to be the first to share the latest YouTube sensation or indie song. Together, we've filled quite a few pages in our passports, but also love quiet nights in with a Game of Thrones marathon and our French Bulldog, Tonks (Harry Potter, anyone?). I'm planning a small, cozy winter wedding---think mercury glass and candle light---in the heart of DC. Our venue is a historic home with a lot of political charm, but needs a bit of work to be wedding-ready.
About Mrs. Gray Wolf

An Evening with David Yurman

December 12th, 2012 @ 4:21 pm by Mrs. Gray Wolf

Last month, Wolfman got this in his inbox:

How neat, right?! We were really getting to the point where we needed to order our wedding bands, so we thought it’d be really cool to buy them from the dude who designed them. We got a little dressed up and headed to the Yurman store in the “fancy mall.” It was pretty swanky—champagne, a DJ, passed appetizers, a photographer—and for the most part, we were the youngest people there by a long shot. We figured they must have invited those who spent a lot of money at Yurman in the recent past, and although my e-ring was certainly a big purchase—it’s a once in a lifetime kind of thing. We were surrounded by people who spent that amount of money on jewelry regularly. The people-watching (and jewelry-ogling) was really fun. Wolfman joked that it looked like some couples were leaving after robbing a pirate ship.

We also got to talk to Mr. Yurman himself!

He was super sweet to us. He asked how long we had been together; I said “five years” at the same time Wolfman said “four years.” (To be fair, neither of us was exactly correct, but I was a lot closer.) He laughed and told us this joke:

If a man tells a story, and his wife isn’t around—is he still wrong?

We laughed, and he asked to see my ring. “Beautiful,” he said—even though he designed it, I still weirdly felt a lot of satisfaction at his compliment.

Even though photos were not allowed, I snapped one quickly of the band I ordered with my e-ring:

Color Club’s “Put a Pin In It.”

I ended up going with the simpler band, and I really love it. Wolfman actually changed his choice up on the spot. He was ready to order a cable design, but ended up really liking this one:

It was also much less expensive, so it was an easy switch. Much to Wolfman’s embarrassment, I asked our salesgirl to take our picture for posterity. It’s not every day you buy wedding bands!

Close to the end of the event, Mr. Yurman (I typed David first and felt weird) gave a little thank you speech with some folks from the Children’s National Medical Center, the recipient of a percentage of the night’s sales. It was cool that the money we were going to spend anyway ended up going to a good cause.

Anyone else get to interact with the designer of their rings?

Wow what a cool opportunity! I think I missed when you first showcased your engagement ring. It is absolutely stunning. And your man picked out a really cool wedding ring. Also, as a nail polish addict, thank you for always sharing your nail color! ;)

Any chance the “fancy mall” is Tysons II? Lol, I’m from Arlington and that is totally what I call that part of the mall.
