About Mr. Bee

Hi guys, this is Mr Bee.  I used to help out Mrs Bee or Mrs Penguin with Weddingbee back in the day.  Like many of you, I was shocked and saddened to read a post by Macintosh (aka Kim) about her husband, Justin, and his terrible injury:

Last night on his way home from work my husband was struck by a car while riding his bike. …  The love of my life is gone.  We were only married for 7 months …  he is only 38 and he now lays in the hospital dying.

Thankfully since then, Justin has begun a slow recovery:

It’s been over a week since the accident that changes our lives forever.  Here are the things I have to be thankful for:  His intracranial pressure is under control.  His head CTs show the injury beginning to heal.  He got the surgery he needed on his broken leg.  He came off of sedation today and I got to see him open his eye a bit and feel him squeeze my hand.  Most of all, he is still alive.

I got a traumatic brain injury in 2002 and learned firsthand just how difficult recovery from a brain injury can be, both emotionally and physically.  And my injury was far less severe than Justin’s.  I’m hoping that Justin finds the path to recovery and is able to heal from his trauma.

I’ve been in touch with Kim, and she said it was ok if we posted this link to a fundraiser she’s set up to help cover some of the costs of Justin’s medical care:

Or if you’re in the Chicago area, according to this newspaper article, the public library where Justin worked is accepting donations in his name at their circulation desk. You can find details at the library website

I also want to thank all of the amazing Weddingbee members who contributed handwritten letters in support of Kim and Justin:

It makes my heart warm to see the Weddingbee community come together to support a bee and her family.  Mrs. Bee and I will be making a donation to Justin’s fundraiser to help support his recovery. If you’re in a position where you can help out, that would be wonderful. Either way, if you’re up for it, it’d be great if you could leave some thoughts for Kim and Justin below.

I’ll start: Kim and Justin, we have never met, but Mrs. Bee and I think about you both every day and are wishing you all the health and happiness in the world! We love you both and send you our best from Brooklyn.

More information on Justin’s fundraiser is below:

My husband Justin was riding his bicycle home from work on 12/3/12 when he was hit by a car. He sustained a traumatic brain injury as well as several broken bones. Justin is still in the ICU fighting for his life after surgery to remove part of his skull and relieve the pressure in his brain. The driver who hit him only had minimum coverage car insurance, which will not cover his medical bills, let alone his lost income. So many people have expressed an interest in donating to Justin, and your generosity is appreciated. The money will go to help cover our short term expenses and in the future, medical bills.

The fundraiser can be found here: http://www.gofundme.com/1om2b4

Such a terrible thing to have to go through. Mr. Wiz rides his bike to commute occasionally and I worry about him every single time. It breaks my heart to hear of things like this happening. Kim and Justin, I’m keeping you in my thoughts and sending you so much Bee love <3 I hope things continue to improve and Justin continues to heal.

Imagine what we could raise if each of us donated the amount we are spending on just one guest at our weddings…

Macintosh – I heard of your husband’s accident from Hellobee. I wasn’t a big poster in the weddingbee boards so I don’t think we ever chatted. I want you to know I am sending you my prayers. I pray your husband gets the surgery and help get needs to come back from this. You are so strong, keep that up for him, he’s going to need your strength to keep him going until he is at least out of icu, if not longer. Someone close to me was in a biking accident, as well. He too was hit by a moving vehicle. I think of you every time I think of him.
