Mrs. Squirrel's Picture
Mrs. Squirrel, Tampa, FL Age and Occupation: 25, Genetic Counselor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graphic Designer/ Engineering Student Engagement Date: March 17, 2012 Wedding Date: May 2013 Venue: Davis Island Garden Club About Me: I am a DIY loving, science dork. I like to eat green peppers every day and I wish all clothes would be made with bows and lace. I moved to the South for grad school and stumbled across Mr. Squirrel, aka Southern Gent extraordinaire. We moved to Tampa, Florida and are starting a new life together. We are so excited to get married! Our ceremony will be in a Catholic church and the guests will then take a boat ride to the outdoor reception. We are channeling a Midsummer Night's Dream and plan to have lots of twinkling lights, moss, and whimsy in the air.
About Mrs. Squirrel

So says Puck, the mischievous fairy in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. I have always been a huge reader, and the whimsical playfulness that I envision as I read this play is exactly the feeling I would like to capture for our wedding.

This was my inspiration picture. If I could just shimmy my way into this picture Mary Poppins style, I would be one happy girl. There is just something about the cafe lights and long winding table that feels so perfect to me. It is classy, yet casual at the same time. I love that the table is surrounded by nature, like it is their own party in the woods. Sigh…

Then I ran across this inspiration picture and knew I’d found my vibe…

Done and done.

This picture captures the playfulness that I hope our wedding achieves. Bright colors and sparkle tucked between classic floral arrangements.

I am also loving the idea of having moss everywhere! It helps keep things feeling natural and “woodsy” without feeling too rustic. I swoon over this exposed table with sheets of moss covered with flowers and candles! Can’t you just imagine the cafe lights overhead bouncing playful shadows over everything as the evening progresses? Whoa man. I’m so excited!!!

I could seriously Pinterest-it-up all day long looking at these lovely tablescapes. I was pretty overwhelmed wondering how could I possibly recreate this magic? Honestly, details would have to come in their own time. All that mattered was I officially had my vision, my theme, whatever you want to call it. This wedding was ready to be planned!!!

Later I realized just how helpful a clear vision is in regard to vendor selection and communication. If they weren’t vibing with the vision. Done. What do you guys think? Woodsy, whimsical, and dare I say…dreamy. :)

Ugh I love it!!! I’ve always loved that first photo, I pinned it before we were even engaged (oops! haha). Is your venue helping you create that look of a long, winding table? I couldn’t find too many resources for advice/tips online so we ended up sticking with standard round tables, although we had a romantic outdoors wedding under the trees as well.

@Mrs. Wallaby: I saw you had posted the picture a little while ago and I could tell we would be good friends :) Figuring out the logistics of the long tables was a little bit of a headache but fortunately we worked it out….I have a post about it coming up soon!

That actually looks a lot like the “florals” we had at our wedding! The moss looks awesome in photos.

Love it! We’re incorporating moss into our garden-inspired springtime ordeal…still gives it that natural look without having to bust our budget with flowers!

Not only is “Midsummer Night’s Dream” a fave of mine, I’m all over woodsy and whimsical. I once attended an outdoor wedding in the woods…all the guests were dressed as medieval knaves and maidens, and the bride and groom were dressed like a medieval prince and princess. They got married on a bridge, and the reception was a great feast on tables decorated with very similar elements to the ones you show here. It was absolutely enchanting!! I think your choice of style/theme is most excellent!
