A Little Bear Bride

January 4th, 2013 @ 3:37 pm by Miss Panda

A bit of a short post today as I really don’t actually have much to say about this topic—I think the pictures do most of the talking for me. I mentioned previously that my amazingly talented mother was going to make amigurumi cake toppers for us. She’s still working on the groom, but I couldn’t wait to show you how far she’s gotten. The little bear bride is done!

The dress isn’t exactly like mine, but I am in love with the detailing. As you can see, she used a lace border around the skirt. There are little silver beads that have been attached to the flower detail on the bottom. Her veil might be a tad too long, but I kind of like it that way.

I made her necklace out of some beads that my mother had sitting around the house. I wanted to incorporate the silver beading of the dress and the pearls in her flowery hairpiece together. The pink stone was to help incorporate more of our colors. I’m not completely convinced that it was the right design decision, but I think we’ll leave it like that for now.

Isn’t she absolutely beautiful? The bear groom will be similar, but he’ll have a little tux, bow tie, and top hat as a nod to our save the dates. I can’t wait to seem them together. I am so excited.

What do you think? Should we change anything? What are you using for your cake toppers?

This is so sweet, and I love that your mom is making them for you – what a great keepsake! To echo Mrs. Eagle’s question, how will you place them on top of the cake? (some sort of base, etc?) It makes me sad to think of frosting getting on your gorgeous little bride bear!

thanks everyone! I tell my mom she’s talented all the time, but I don’t know if she completely believes me. Maybe she’ll believe the internet. ;)

@Mrs. Eagle: @TexasAggieMom: I have no idea what/how we’re going to display them yet. We’re doing cupcakes, so they won’t be on top of an actual cake. I was thinking of having them either sit next to the cupcakes, or be the top layer above the cupcakes. Not completely sure. thought?

@Miss Panda: What about a little dollhouse type gazebo? I bet that would look so adorable at your venue!

@Miss Panda: LOVE kbiceling’s gazebo idea! Whatever you find, I think it should be on top of the cupcake tiers, rather than beside them. Quite a few bees have done tutorials on cupcake stands; I think these should be your top layer and then have as many tiers below it as you need to hold all the cupcakes. Can’t wait to see how this turns out!

@TexasAggieMom: yeah I agree, on top makes the most sense. I guess my concern is that each of the bears is about 6 inches tall and fairly large. They’re definitely not small by any stretch of the imagination. I’m concerned that adding a gazebo might make everything too bulky? I’m considering possibly adding a flowery arbor type thing? I think that would give the same feel without adding too much bulk

Exquisite! I’d suggest putting it on a base to keep from having frosting or fondant ruin it.
