Miss Mongoose's Picture
Miss Mongoose, New Haven, CT Age and Occupation: 28, Digital Advertising Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Business Development Engagement Date: November 19th, 2011 Wedding Date: May 2013 Venue: Hotel Nelligan in Montreal, CA About Me: I was born and raised in Queens, NY (though you would never know due to my lack of a "real" New York accent) but currently live in Connecticut with my fiance. Anyone who knows me knows that I have a crazy obsession for planning and organizing things, so it comes as no surprise that I'm currently obsessed with planning our wedding. I love dancing, music, traveling, reading fiction novels, cooking, the color blue, cupcakes, all things space science-related and TV shows created by Joss Whedon and J.J. Abrams. My fiance and I have been together for seven years and are so excited to finally get married next year. We are planning a peacock-themed destination wedding in Montreal, one of our favorite cities in the world, with 100 or so of our closest family and friends. While we may look very different on the outside, we have eerily similar personalities (probably due to the fact that we share the exact same birthday) and share very similar passions. But above all else, we love each other and love to have FUN!!!

Avocado, A Cool App for Couples

January 7th, 2013 @ 10:01 am by Miss Mongoose

So a few months ago, FH told me about this free new app that was specifically designed for couples to privately communicate with each other on their smart phones. Instead of utilizing regular text messaging, you and your boo download the app, create a password, and from there have the ability to chat with each other in a private space. Since downloading, they’ve added some awesome features over the past few months like to-do lists (which you both can virtually create and add to at any time—very handy when grocery shopping), but the best new feature is the calendar.

You can each create events (e.g., Food Tasting on 1/22/13, Meeting with Florist 2/15/13) and even set up reminders to alert both (or one) of you when an event is coming up. Any couple who downloads the app January 1st and after will be charged $19.99/year for the Unlimited app.

It’s a great app for private communication—I highly recommend downloading it. It’s especially great for communicating wedding-planning events and meetings to your SO. Enjoy!

Ms. Mongoose, you are the best- all your posts are just so dang useful! Loved your realistic take on eating and exercise, and I now need to download this app stat. Sounds like such a good way to stay on the same page with the wedding when FI and I always forget what we’ve already told each other and what we haven’t!

There is a similar app that FI use and absolutely LOVE, it’s called Pair. It can be used on both Android and Apple and since he is a die hard Android user, it works great for us. It has all the same features and you can send pictures and drawings to one another. You can also “thumbkiss” where both of you put your thumbs on your screen at the same time and it makes a kissing noise on both ends, its adorable. I have never used avocado, but I highly recommend Pair because its FREE!

That sounds really cool! Currently I text DH the grocery list and add events to our Google Calendar (that he never looks at). So I’ll check this out!

This is so awesome, thank you! This is good for any couple, we’ve been married 5 years and this is great. I love the “Avocado This” link, so much easier to send him things I find on craigslist or amazon without having to email it to my phone and then copy it into a text message. I’m seriously so excited about this app!
