Serendipity threw us together again and again (and again) on our college campus before we eventually stuck, but when we finally did submit to destiny, we hit the ground running and never looked back! Gettin’ Pretty, Take Two

January 7th, 2013 @ 11:47 am by Mrs. Armadillo

H’OK, guys! Remember a couple of months back when I did a DIY makeup trial? Well, after reading everyone’s helpful comments and suggestions as to ways I could improve on my look, I’m back with an update!

Just as a refresher, here’s what I originally came up with:

Gettin’ Pretty, Take Two : wedding diy houston makeup Makeuptrial11 makeuptrial11

Since my last trial, my skin has lightened to the color it’ll most likely be for the wedding (fall and winter months turn me pretty pale!), and I also ran out and bought a couple of new products: one was black liquid liner by Maybelline, and the other was some long-lasting coral-colored lipstick, also by Maybelline. The only things missing from my most recent trial are my falsies (so just imagine my lashes being just a bit more lush and dramatic than pictured) and a bit of brow filler. OK, enough talking! Here’s the new (and improved?) Miss A:

Gettin’ Pretty, Take Two : wedding diy houston makeup Makeuptrial4 makeuptrial4

IDK why I’m not smiling here. I look so sad! Anyway, this photo is in natural light.

So, what do you guys think of the changes? Were they for the better? For the worse? Just different? Anything else you all recommend I try to improve on my look before the big day? We’re 68 days out now…invites going out this week! EEK!! :)

I hate to say it but I think I liked your makeup in the first picture better! Its not just the tone difference of your skin either. I don’t know why, but your cheek color looks different and so does your lip color. I also think the glossyness of your lips in the first pic is very bridal, while the 2nd pic has more of a matte color which looks more everyday. Your lips look pink in the first pic and red in the 2nd – which color were you wanting them to look?
If you like the 2nd look better then go with it, but I think that the colors in the first one were more bridal. Either way, you’re a gorgeous gal and I think your makeup looks awesome in both pics, I just happen to like the first one better.

The coral lipstick in #2 reads more red to me. I like the eyes in #2 but the pink lip color in #1.

@Mrs. Eagle: I had a few people suggest I try out a coral lip color instead of the pink, so the lip color is different than in the original picture. The blush is the same, though, just a little less of it! ;) I have no idea what color I want the lips to be…I thought maybe a pink/berry makeup palette would be best because of the purplely/pink in our wedding colors, but I seriously have no idea.

@BooRadley:The coral definitely reads different IRL, but you’re right, it does look pretty much red in this photo. I really like the pink lip, too! Ugh, so confusing…

@Miss Armadillo: What about adding a gloss overtop of the coral lip color?

Also in the first pic, I think you lined your inner eyelids (waterline on the bottom) with white? It makes your eyes pop more in the first pic than they do in the second! Also I think it looks more bridal because it makes your eyes look softer.

It’s so hard to tell since the lighting in the pictures is so different. The color of your eyes looks incredible in the second picture, but I don’t think it’s because of the make-up. I think it’s just the lighting… Honestly, I think you look awesome in both pictures. But I do really like your lip color in the first picture. Maybe Mrs. Eagle is onto something with the idea of putting a little gloss on top of the second lip color…

I think you are stunning in either one, but my preference is # 2…

Good luck:)

I love the make up in the first photo, your lip colour is so much glossier and nicer in the first. Although in the first photo it looks like you have used white eye-liner in the inner section, how do you feel about not using it or using the smallest amount? I think your make up is perfect. xx

I think the eyeliner is actually too dark. I have very dark hair and light skin, and I don’t venture into black. For someone with lighter caramel hair, it comes across as a little bit harsh. With your beautiful blue eyes, a violet or mauve liner (and similar eye shadow perhaps) might bring them out a little more.

The foundation I think is a little too pink in the second one. You can see the line between your natural skin color and the foundation. You have such gorgeous ivory skin in the second picture — you should try to complement the natural loveliness of your skin tone! I LOVE the blush in the first one — it looks so natural and fresh. It might just be the lack of sunlight in winter or the different light sources of the two pictures, but there’s a certain sun-kissed quality in the first one. You look just as good with less of a tan, but you might have to adjust your makeup accordingly. In the second, the blush doesn’t contrast enough with the pink tones of the foundation, so it doesn’t have the same “just pinched” quality.

You’re going to look gorgeous on your wedding day no matter what palette you ultimately go with!

You look beautiful in both, but I prefer #1! It’s also hard to compare because the lighting and your facial expressions are so different. I think on the big day, you will be glowing and beautiful regardless!

First of all, you look beautiful! My overall preference would be photo #1. I’m a makeup artist for TV/Film, but I LOVE doing bridal makeup when my schedule allows. When it comes to bridal makeup, there really is no right or wrong, just what the bride feels beautiful in. I would recommend a few things, but you can take them or leave them. I would use a tad less blush and use a matte brozer (I love the matte bronzers from Smashbox) to chisel your cheekbones and just use the blush on the apples of your cheek, where you would naturally blush. You can also use a powder that’s about 1-2 shades darker to do this, if it’s hard to get your hands on a matte bronzer. I don’t recommend using a shimmery bronzer, you will glow in all your photos!) :) The bottom eyeliner in photo #2 could be blended with an angle brush so you can’t really tell where it begins. You might also try using a slightly lighter color than the top liner, such as a dark brown or dark gray. Sometimes a pencil gives a softer look for the bottom liner, but if you love the liquid, you can blend it with a bit of your brow filler, so you can’t see a stark starting point. If you like the idea of lining the inner rim, try a sheer champagne liner (Make up forever makes a great one) as opposed to white. You can also add a bit of that to the inner corner of your eye. And as total personal preference, I love how the pinker lips look on you! You can always blend the two…add a little coral to the pink for the best of both worlds. :) Good luck, you’ll look wonderful!

Miss Armadillo, I think you look beautiful in both pictures! You are going to make a gorgeous bride! But if you were going for a more natural makeup look, I would go with the first look. It just looks so fresh and natural. I also like what Mrs. Eagle pointed out, the white lining of your waterline. This makes the whole look so soft and oh so pretty paired with the pink lip!

The second look is much better IMO. Warm colors are far more flattering on your coloring, and they look less dated and more fresh and modern. I also love your application of eyeshadow/eyeliner in the second photo; your eyes look huge! The only thing I’d suggest is to go with a warm or neutral toned pink lipstick for a more bridal look. Either way, you are gorgeous!

clearly I know nothing about makeup since I have no idea what people are talking about in the comments at all. I have to say, you look great in both! (I am so much help.) Also, you have the most gorgeous blue eyes.

Although you’ll be lovely in whichever look you choose, I’m voting for the first one. Perhaps it’s just the difference in your expression, but you are absolutely radiant in #1. It’s a natural look, but also very bridal, and looks like it photographs really well. Can’t wait to see your final “look” – you’re going to be a drop-dead gorgeous bride!

I think you have a little too much on in the second picture, the first one looked a b it more natural and less covered. You don’t want to put too much on. I think the first pic was more of a natural and smooth look
