So, things are a little out of order at this point, but I’m sure you guys won’t mind. I showed you some of my favorite guest photos from the big day, and now I want to jump back 48 hours to the beginning of our wedding weekend. See? It’s not that confusing.
We officially started our wedding weekend with the arrival of some very important people on Thursday afternoon. Namely, our officiant and MIL & FIL Coach. Following their arrival, Mr. C and I headed down to the hotel they were staying at, and FIL Coach treated us all to a delicious dinner at Truluck’s (mmm, steak and seafood!). Side note: Earlier that day, Mr. C and I actually made a reservation for dinner at the WRONG restaurant location. I was in wedding mode and handed him the phone, which was already calling another Truluck’s in downtown Dallas, not the location we were heading to. Luckily, they made room for us and everything worked out, but I do suggest letting someone else handle details like that when you have a little case of wedding brain the days before the wedding!
That’s Officiant Josh and his wife, Kim; FIL & MIL Coach; and, of course, Mr. C and me, with our huge slice of carrot cake.
Dinner was amazing, and it was so wonderful to spend some quality time with some of our favorite people before we started the wedding rush. And seriously, how much do Mr. C and FIL C look alike?! Crazy!

Welp, hive, McGlovin and I started the new year perfectly—our wedding was amazing! I’m taking a tiny break from things (not like I’ve been crazy active recently) to hang out with my newly minted husband. (Husband! That’s a thing we’re saying now!) But I will be back shortly to talk about all of the DIY that we did in the weeks leading up to the wedding. In the meantime, here’s one of the few pics that I’ve found from last weekend:

We woke up the morning of August 26th fairly early. There was a lot to do! Mr. CA and I walked down to Madison Park to grab coffee and take out cash to tip vendors. It was a lovely morning, we were the only ones that seemed to be up and about, and I felt very relaxed and happy. I was getting married! So surreal. It was like in those Disney movies when the sun is out, the birds are chirping, and the princess is dancing around singing to the wildlife. Except I was in jeans and a T-shirt, I hadn’t washed my hair that morning, and the only wildlife around was an old, grouchy raccoon that most certainly could not talk. And I’m not a princess. Whatever.
We got home, we stuffed our cash into envelopes, I took a shower, and then I headed over to the Seattle Tennis Club. Time to get ready!
I ended up getting to the Club super early. I had told the ladies to be there around 11:30, since they would all be in charge of their own hair and makeup and I imagined they would want time to either go somewhere or just do it themselves. I can’t remember what time I got there, but I think it was around 10:00 AM. There wasn’t really anyone around when I arrived, just some old people in their workout clothes wandering around the Club, so I settled into the changing room and tried to relax, double- and triple-checking to make sure I had everything (like the ring!). It was sort of nice, being there by myself before everything got super hectic.
The ladies (and gentlemen, I am told) began to arrive, and we had lunch served to both the bridesmaids and groomsmen in their respective rooms. The ladies all hung out for a while and chatted, and when my lovely soon-to-be-auntie arrived, the bridal prep started!
Someone tried to get me to eat some fruit (probably my mom). It didn’t really happen—I wasn’t hungry at all that morning.

When it comes to wedding planning, I’ve been a stickler for the details. I’ve heard of brides getting screwed because they didn’t read the fine print in the contract. You hear of couples finding out they owe hundreds more dollars than they thought because they didn’t realize tax and gratuities weren’t included in the quoted price. With every big decision, I carefully read through every contract to make sure I completely understood what I was agreeing to.
So when I ordered my dress, I was naturally just as cautious. I had two people measure me: my consultant and the woman in charge of alterations. (This is interesting, because their measurements were about an inch different from each other. I recommend getting two measurements to make sure everything is right.) They then showed me the sizing chart for the designer of my dress and allowed me to choose the size. My waist fit into one size but my bust fell into the next size up. At their recommendation, I chose the bigger size (easier to take things in then let them out!).
I also chose to order the dress in the shorter length. This almost certainly limits my shoe choices. It also made me slightly terrified that the dress would be too short…
And finally, I made a few alterations to the dress. As a reminder, here is my lovely dress on the model.

I wanted the dress with a sweetheart neckline, so I had three choices. The first was just to have the regular bodice cut into a sweetheart style. The second was to have the fabric wrapped like another of the designer’s dresses. (This one is called Danica.)

A water taxi!
As I mentioned earlier, Davis Island Garden Club is located right on the water. So what better way to get there than by boat? The reception is accessible by car as well, but we anticipate most guests will go for the boat.
We not-so-accidentally blocked rooms at a hotel right on the water in downtown Tampa. Check out the nifty little path the boat will take:

Am I right people? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve mentioned (around people who are married) that we aren’t sure how to display our escort cards and I’m given a blank stare in return until I say, “You know, the little cards that have your table number/name on it that tell you where to sit?” ”Ohhhhh.”
Sometimes escort cards are easily confused with place cards, the difference being escort cards tell you which table to go to, and place cards tell you what seat to sit in at said table. We aren’t using place cards, but we ARE using escort cards. This post is now so boring I might punch myself in the face. Never thought I’d be writing about escort cards. Alas, here I am, with an “escort card dilemma.” (Wow. Pathetic.)
I’m so in love with many of the beautiful options prominent on Pinterest these days, but they always seem to fit better with rustic, vintage, or outdoorsy weddings, not elegant, hotel, Scottish-inspired weddings.
In keeping with my flair for drama, we are doing a bit of a display with our escort cards. The idea first came about when Mom Sword and Sister Big Eyes found this castle at Michaels.
Isn’t it cute? Inside it appears to be an adorable yet functional dollhouse. I can see us hanging onto this castle post-wedding for future Small Swords to enjoy. :)
So for the bridesmaids’ dresses, I’m going the old school route and having the ladies all wear the same dress. While I do think the trend of different colors/styles of dresses is really cool, I’m the type of girl who likes matching looks. And since these girls are my leading ladies, I also want to make sure that throughout the big day, there is no question as to whether or not these girls are in the bridal party.
It took me some time to find the perfect dress for them, though—I have such a diverse group of ladies that it looks like a UN summit when we get together, so I wanted to make sure to find something that would look beautiful on each of them (regardless of skin tone and body shape). What I needed was a Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants type dress—something that miraculously looked amazing on each of them.
I had some dresses in mind when I begin my initial search, so I stopped by a bridesmaids’ dress shop in Manhattan called Here Comes the Bridesmaid where I went looking specifically for the two dresses below.

Like Mrs. Mink, I pondered some time ago the unplugged ceremony. After reading Mrs. Mink’s post again, I went and visited the article she mentions on Offbeat Bride about the unplugged wedding ceremony. Once again, I saw this gem of a photo:
Now. As someone who works as a social media manager, I totally understand capturing moments and sharing them. Even from a guest perspective, I can see why they would want to capture their own photos of the day. Heck, as a bride, I know I’m going to be really impatient to get my photos back, so I’m actually looking forward to seeing some guest photos…of the reception.
