Miss Mongoose's Picture
Miss Mongoose, New Haven, CT Age and Occupation: 28, Digital Advertising Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Business Development Engagement Date: November 19th, 2011 Wedding Date: May 2013 Venue: Hotel Nelligan in Montreal, CA About Me: I was born and raised in Queens, NY (though you would never know due to my lack of a "real" New York accent) but currently live in Connecticut with my fiance. Anyone who knows me knows that I have a crazy obsession for planning and organizing things, so it comes as no surprise that I'm currently obsessed with planning our wedding. I love dancing, music, traveling, reading fiction novels, cooking, the color blue, cupcakes, all things space science-related and TV shows created by Joss Whedon and J.J. Abrams. My fiance and I have been together for seven years and are so excited to finally get married next year. We are planning a peacock-themed destination wedding in Montreal, one of our favorite cities in the world, with 100 or so of our closest family and friends. While we may look very different on the outside, we have eerily similar personalities (probably due to the fact that we share the exact same birthday) and share very similar passions. But above all else, we love each other and love to have FUN!!!
About Miss Mongoose

As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, we are going with a peacock theme for our wedding. Meaning that in terms of decor elements and color schemes, we are utilizing peacock colors and feathers as inspiration. However a “peacock theme” isn’t really indicative of us as a couple—after all, it’s not like either of us breeds peacocks for a living or that we met over a shared love of peacocks LOL.

So with that distinction in mind, we wanted to make sure that some real aspects of our personalities and/or relationship are incorporated into the wedding itself. As I’ve mentioned, FH and I share a passion for travel, so the fact that we’re hosting a destination wedding is 100% in line with our shared interests and is very “us.” I’ve also mentioned that we are totally obsessed with music, so it truly wouldn’t be our wedding if music wasn’t a main attraction (besides us, of course)! In addition to having a dance party that will go into the wee hours of the night (we have the DJ and reception room until 2:00 AM), I wanted to brainstorm other ways to subtly show our love of music.

Incorporating our Personalities into the Wedding : wedding decor montreal Vinyl G vinyl-g

I came across the above idea while browsing for ideas and thought it was absolutely perfect for us. What we’ll do is get some vinyl albums, print out labels of our favorite album covers to include in the middle, and have guests give us their “autograph.” Being an inept DIY’er, I already found a few shops on Etsy that specialize in this, which I’m psyched about. I will also purchase frames for each vinyl (like the image above) so that after the wedding we can hang the signed albums in our home. I’ll make sure to have metallic pens (most likely gold since that’s one of the wedding colors) and a sign next to the vinyls to ensure that guests know what to do.

Currently the hardest part is just narrowing down which album covers to use. I’m guessing we’ll need about four medium sized vinyls in order for guests to have enough room to sign (since we’re expecting around 100 people, I’m thinking 25 signatures per vinyl should work). FH and I love many bands, so I’m thinking of choosing four of the five album covers below—just not sure which ones since we love the bands equally.

How are you and your fiance incorporating your personalities into your wedding?

Looooove that guestbook idea! I am not usually a fan of signed things, but the framed vinyls look so classy! And, yeah, I probably couldn’t choose between those 5 album covers ;)

It is ideas like this that make me wish I could go back and do my wedding over again, such a cute idea! And for your choices, I say Funeral because that is one of the best albums ever! I LOVE that album!

Since you like all of those bands/albums equally, I’d make the final decison based on which ones will look the best together and go with your home decor. Sometimes no matter how much you like an album’s music the cover might just not look great in your living room.

@AnnieAAA: Arcade Fire is our favorite band so it’s no question that that’ll be one of our vinyls! I guess if anything it MIGHT be between M.I.A and Radiohead. But even that is tough! Each band means something to us.

This is an awesome idea and a hard choice…If you like all the bands equally, I would say the decor is a good way to judge, or what colors are easiest to write on. As much as I love “In Rainbows”, you would probably need special pens to show up on a black background

First of all, you have incredible taste in music. :)

As far as choosing an album cover, I’d go for Funeral — since the hand on the cover is holding a quill/pen, it might be kind of cool to cover it with signatures!

@Beltacular: Actually record labels woud only cover the center of the vinyl–so guests will be able to sign the black space around it!

@Mrs. Prairie Dog: you have an awesome brother :)

@isabellej18: @Mrs. Pony: @monicaking77: @SinfoniAXiD: Thank you ladies! Music is my happy place.

@SinfoniAXiD: Go for it girl–after all, I took this idea from somewhere else! I don’t know if you are a DIY’er or not but I found a few vendors on Etsy who create these. Let me know if you are interested.

those are some of my top albums. sometimes wolfman and i say i don’t think we’d be dating if it weren’t for bloc party.

i think that 25 to an album is maybe a lot and you should just go ahead and do all 5. it looks like the albums in the inspiration have like 15-20 signatures, so it might be okay to feature all of them!

@Miss Gray Wolf: I remember “Blue Light” being one of the first songs Mr. M introduced me to (within our first 3 months of dating). Bloc Party is also the first concert we went to together. We’ve requested that our string quartet play a Bloc Party song during the ceremony prelude :)
