Mr. Squirrel and I had the best holiday break from school and work. We both traveled to our own hometowns for one last single Christmas with our families. As much as I missed Mr. Squirrel, I think it was special for both of us to have that alone time with our families before we start traveling together for every holiday from now on. Right before New Year’s, my mom and two of my sisters traveled down to Arkansas where Mr. Squirrel’s mom threw us an absolutely wonderful shower.

She went above and beyond to make this is a special day for us. Yes, us, because Mr. Squirrel was at the shower too! Not the norm, but since he so rarely gets to see his friends and family from home, it gave him the chance to visit with everyone. He was also able to introduce me to relatives I hadn’t gotten the chance to meet yet. Plus what guy doesn’t love to ham it up in a room full of 30 women??
Mr. S’s mom decorated with lots of wood stumps and greenery, and we had a ton of whimsical wooded fun. Everything looked fantastic! There were signs, a dessert bar, and lots of other fantastic decorations.
Mr. Squirrel’s mom confessed she browsed Weddingbee for some shower games, and we ended up with some pretty incredible cake decorating:
The “fashionista” cake
The winning cake team!
As well as some beautiful brides:
(Yes, he got sucked into the madness. Check out his train.)
We were both so overwhelmed with love at the shower that I cannot even imagine how we will feel at the wedding itself! This is the first time anyone from our families had ever met, and more than anything we loved getting to see everyone interact together.

My sisters hanging with Mr. Squirrel’s cousins…BFFs
Our friends and family were also WAY too generous when it came to gifts. It’s insane. I know we set up a wedding registry and all, but in a way registering felt like window shopping. Nothing was actually ours. Its is a little surreal to have such beautiful things that we would never have bought for ourselves!
I love love love this pitcher. Every time I walked into Anthro I would gaze longingly at it. It is the first thing I put on the registry.

Modern, yet classic dinnerware (salad plate, dinner plate, and charger are shown below). We will bust these out for our dinner parties and holidays. I am already planning the beautiful tablescapes!!

I only have mismatched, ugly, boring mugs that I have collected over the years. We received a whole set of these, and I cannot wait to use them on a daily basis. They are big enough for tea, hot cocoa, or even cereal if your bowls are dirty.

OK, technically Mr. Squirrel and I got this as a Christmas present, but it was on our registry so I wanted to mention it. This toothbrush is amazing. I have only ever used the $5 electric ones in the past, and I had no clue what I was missing. The hilarious part is that the directions say that over the first 12 uses, the power will slowly increase so your mouth can “adjust.” I thought this was a little silly and unnecessary…until I tried it! Bottom line = party in your mouth. My teeth are so spankin’ clean—I would highly recommend putting it on your registry.
We decided to register at Bed Bath & Beyond as well as Amazon.com. I cannot recommend Amazon.com enough. You can add any item from anywhere to your registry. Plus it is a website that most people are already familiar with, so it is not intimidating like other universal registries.
Sorry for the long post, it was just such a wonderful afternoon that I am still beaming!! Were you overwhelmed at your shower too? Ah, how will we survive the wedding?
