Mrs. Lemur's Picture
Mrs. Lemur, Greenville, South Carolina Age and Occupation: 22, Graduate Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 22, Security Officer Engagement Date: October 9, 2012 Wedding Date: May 2013 Venue: Pleasant Ridge Camp & Retreat Center About Me: I may fancy myself a doctor after too many episodes of House—but in reality I'm finally almost done with my degree in business administration (less than three months left!). My fiance and I met at school in undergrad hundreds of miles away from either of our hometowns and have been happily running and hiking together ever since. We're undertaking a long distance relationship as I finish school and we plan our casual wedding for a day after graduation—needless to say, it will be the busiest and most exciting weekend of our lives so far!

We’re Nerds

January 23rd, 2013 @ 7:06 am by Mrs. Lemur

…or I am, anyway. My undergraduate degree was in math and I’m finishing my graduate degree in business—does it get much nerdier than that? So somehow these *ahem* math-themed centerpieces really appeal to me.

I would also love to totally annoy my guests by doing something like this.

Just kidding—I wouldn’t actually do that, although I think it’s a really funny idea. Has anyone actually done this? I would probably end up standing there and helping all the hungry guests solve their math problems to find their table numbers!

Mr. Lemur is not so much of a math nerd—I won’t mention how he did in math in high school. Plus, I’m not sure how well having a math themed wedding would go over with our families and friends. I’m already the nerd of the family! But we do both love to read—and we have lofty ambitions of a library in our house someday.

Plus, books are just classically romantic and elegant. So inspiration pictures like these ones really spark my imagination.

I know there are lots of other inspiration pictures for book-themed weddings out there—please share! And tell me about yours. What worked? What would you do differently? Any other suggestions?

if pdog would have found a picture of that math seating chart, we 100% would have had that at our wedding, haha :)

That’s so funny! My sister is a highschool math teacher and she’s TOTALLY doing flashcard table numbers! her actual seating chart isn’t math equations – just says table 1, 2, 3 etc. but the actual table number is an easy equation – 1×1= and then the guest has to know that equals 1. I think it’s so fun!

I’m using book pages to make the majority of the flowers for our wedding.

I’m on the same page as @Mrs. Prairie Dog: If I show this to Mr. Whale, he will insist that we do this :) Both of us have math degrees, so… it would actually be somewhat appropriate. We’ll see if I show him ;)

I love both the math and the bookworm inspo! We were planning on doing famous scientist table numbers (I’m an environmental engineer, Mr. W is a chemical engineer, we both love science) but we didn’t get around to it. But we did use books in the decor and I loved it. I think the best thing to do is buy a bunch of old books, arrange them in clusters (maybe by color), and save them to display on different tables at your reception – cake table, escort card table, sweetheart table, etc.

I’m am mathematician and my fiancé is a math teacher. We are planning on doing flashcard table numbers too! We picked up two boxes of them at the dollar store. Our wedding is math and travel themed because we also do a lot of traveling (one of the bonuses of having an academic schedule!)

@Mrs. Prairie Dog: Ohhh I wish you had so I could have lived vicariously through yours haha!

@cowpoke06: This is too cute!! If I wasn’t totally in love with what we ended up doing I would try to go back to this ;)

@jilleeann: I so wish I had the patience to do this. I bet they look amazing!

@Akinom: Please please send me a picture after your wedding!!

I love the look of vintage books, I just couldn’t convince Mr. P to let me use them for our décor. I can’t wait to see what you do with books for your wedding!

@Miss Lemur: I’m unashamedly recruiting the help of friends. The small hot glue guns are only 2.99 these days, so I’ve bought extras for when friends want to help but don’t have them.
