Mrs. Squirrel, Tampa, FL Age and Occupation: 25, Genetic Counselor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graphic Designer/ Engineering Student Engagement Date: March 17, 2012 Wedding Date: May 2013 Venue: Davis Island Garden Club About Me: I am a DIY loving, science dork. I like to eat green peppers every day and I wish all clothes would be made with bows and lace. I moved to the South for grad school and stumbled across Mr. Squirrel, aka Southern Gent extraordinaire. We moved to Tampa, Florida and are starting a new life together. We are so excited to get married! Our ceremony will be in a Catholic church and the guests will then take a boat ride to the outdoor reception. We are channeling a Midsummer Night's Dream and plan to have lots of twinkling lights, moss, and whimsy in the air.
About Mrs. Squirrel

A Bright and Chevron Kind of Day

February 13th, 2013 @ 5:16 am by Mrs. Squirrel

As you may remember, I always thought I would have an obnoxiously yellow wedding. I didn’t end up going this route, but my family knew that when it came to planning a wedding shower, yellow was the way to go. The wedding may be full of dramatic whimsical flourishes, but I love modern decor as well so they also decided to incorporate chevron into the shower theme. I knew I was in for an awesome time when this came in the mail:

I am seriously one lucky lady. In addition to having Mr. S, I have the most FABULOUS women in my life. My sisters, mother, and friends completely out-did themselves with the thought and detail they put into my hometown shower.

From the moment I walked in, I was blown away. The ladies had set up a mimosa bar that was exactly what I needed to start the party off right. MOH C stocked the bar full of many different juices, heart shaped fruit, and champagne. MOH K pimped it out with her signage, mirrors, and of course, lots of chevron!

There were so many details that I honestly didn’t know where to look! MOH K made fringed letters that were to die for (tutorial coming soon!). I loved them so much that I carried them with me on the plane ride back to Florida so they wouldn’t be crushed in my bag.

My mom is an embroidering goddess and made towels that are reminiscent of our invites (hint hint) and perfect for the shower.

BM M made tissue paper poms that hung delicately from the ceiling.

MOH K made sure no surface went untouched!

The tables were spread through the house. Each had bright flowers, chevron runners hand painted by BM M, and mismatched vintage plates that were lovingly compiled from old family collections and vintage shops (aka Goodwill).

And grand as the decor was, ultimately all of this is just “stuff.” What made the shower so special was all the women who helped me celebrate. My biggest regret from the day is not taking a picture with all the lovely ladies who put the shower together (Or the “committee” as they liked to call themselves. This crew crafted, baked, and drank wine on many nights leading up to the shower. I was jealous.). A close family friend graciously offered to host the party at her beautiful home. As she put it, she was the “venue” and my sisters had the “vision.” My sisters and mother went above and beyond to make this day special for me.

Three sisters (BM A, Maid of Honor K, Matron of Honor C, me). They bring all the boys to the yard…

And the dynamic trio who worked their butts off the entire shower. They kept everything running smoothly and created the most delicious lunch! I feel so bad because I hardly had a chance to visit with them. They are amazing.

Our amazing hostess, her mother who flew in from California (with pounds of fresh lemons to use for the shower!), and another close family friend.

Yes, I am a bride that eats. As people feasted (quiche, roasted potatoes, salad, and soup), we played a little game where guests guessed what Mr. S and I said on Facebook. Mr. Squirrel is the mushy one…

Since my mom and I were both busy working the room, I didn’t get a single picture with her. Ladies, make this a priority. I am going to have to make Mr. S photoshop my face in front of my sisters.

I guess I was distracted by all the love!! Such an amazing time. Up next…opening presents and dessert bar!

Some of my best ladies!

Have you had your bridal shower yet? I hope your hostess(es) went above and beyond, too!

The decorations are ADORABLE! They did an incredible job, how sweet to have such amazing women in your life :)

I think my future mother-in-law & some other women planning my Michigan shower are going to incorporate some elements I wanted to include in the wedding but decided against. Love it!

@Miss Lemur: I hope they do! It was so fun to see the yellow. I often wish I could have three receptions and decorate them each completely differently!
@Anna: Girl, you have no clue!

I am loving those fringed letters and all the other details. I was thinking of having a mimosa bar at my wedding (it is a brunch) and now I am sold. Your family did such a great job!

Your shower looks amazing! The amount of details that your ladies did is just above-and-beyond. It looks better than most WEDDINGS I’ve seen!

I love house-hosted showers. I think they add a really nice, intimate touch and you aren’t as limited as you are with a space. So awesome of the family friend to offer it and seriously SO awesome of everyone to coordinate everything. I love it! Can’t wait to read more. :)
