Dressing Up the Dress

February 14th, 2013 @ 6:56 am by Mrs. Lemur

Remember when I introduced my dress and said I was excited to make it my own? Well this post is just about that! I also posted about shoes and whether or not I should splurge for expensive heels or go with a simple sandal. This girl is still undecided! But today let’s talk about wedding jewelry.

I’ve seen a lot of pictures lately with necklaces that look something like this, and they kind of make me swoon. Especially the ones with birdcage/short veils because that’s what I’ll be wearing!

Because the dress is so simple, I think I could get away with a bigger necklace, although maybe not something with quite that much bling—even though I love them. I’m thinking a chunkier necklace that still fits the whole casual theme, maybe even something in coral.

I think this image says it best. Look at her—she’s stunning. I’m absolutely loving the double strand with the hint of color that matches her sweater. Umm, can anyone find me a coral sweater, please? And then let’s have the weather be cold on my wedding day!

This is a short post because I really don’t have anything else to say! You can say it for me: What do you think I should wear? Go with a larger necklace or stick to a traditional string of pearls or pendant? What kind of wedding jewelry did you wear?

I think bc your dress has straps, a really big necklace that covers most of your chest wouldn’t look that wonderful. BUT something like that last necklace that still has the chunky beads, just less of them, would look SO GREAT.

@WoodenShoes: That’s totally what I was thinking! The big chunkier necklaces look best with strapless dresses, right? I’m totally in love with that last necklace though :)

I think your idea of a statement necklace (and hopefully matching cardigan) is great! I wore a classic pearl necklace.

I love love love a big statement necklace with a simple wedding dress. Some of the pictures in this post are already in my inspiration folder, might have to save the rest.

I actually have a coral shrug, if you want to borrow it. I wore it in our engagement pics. http://www.weddingbee.com/2012/05/11/engagment-pictures-notre-dame/

I think a turquoise necklace would be a great “something blue.” Something like this: http://www.kendrascott.com/harlow-statement-necklace-in-turquoise.html They have it in coral, too!

I love all of these looks. I was designing a necklace for my wedding but just like you realized that it would look best with a strapless dress. And I have bead work on my waist so I don’t really need a necklace. So I designed the necklace just for everyday and I did one for my sister in our wedding colors too as her gift for being my matron of honor.

I love chunky necklaces on brides, I say go for it! Have you searched Etsy? I think this one (or something similar) would work with your dress: http://www.etsy.com/listing/114898559/coral-sunset-one-of-a-kind-coral?ref=sr_gallery_13&ga_search_query=coral+necklace&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=US&ga_search_type=all

I agree that something to big is going to look funny with straps. But I think the last necklace that you love would totally work for your dress! And if you want a coral cardigan, you shouldn’t have any problem finding one. Coral must be the “hot” color this year because old navy’s website has a whole section called “Coral Craze”. My color is also coral (and navy). I am not wearing a cardigan to the wedding but for rehearsal dinner I am wearing a white eyelet sundress with coral heels and a coral cardigan. I got my cardigan from Loft but I would imagine old navy/gap, target, most women clothing stores will be getting them in as spring approaches. I am struggling finding cute coral flats. I am wearing flats to the wedding and I can’t find any in coral I like.

I wouldn’t wear a big necklace on my wedding day because I am not a big accessory girl, but I just love this trend specially with the color hint contrasting the bouquet like the second-last pic.

J. Crew has some cute coral jewelry right now but no cardigans.

@Mrs. Bracelet: I love the classic pearl necklace. I think my version for the wedding could be the classic pearl necklace with a fun twist. It could work, right?

@Miss Squirrel: I’m scared of big necklaces!! I never feel like I can pull them off… I really need to get out of my comfort zone more often ;)

@Kit_Kath: Yay glad I could provide more inspiration! Go to the “A Low Country Wedding” site, they have a bunch more pictures :)

@courtoni: That’s a super sweet gift! I’m a little nervous about it, but I just need to throw on my dress and layer a couple necklaces that I have now and see how it looks :)

@Meredith: Oh this is beautiful! Close to what I’m looking for, I need to hunt around more!

@Brooklyn55: Oh I remember you saying you were having a more formal coral & navy wedding. GOOD CALL on the Old Navy coral section! Love it! Tell me if you find any coral flats… I might be looking for some. Either than or casual sandals I can put a coral accent on.

@Mrs. Toadstool: I don’t think I’m brave enough to contrast colors like that, but doesn’t she look amazing in that picture? Love it!

@courtoni: I know :/ But Ann Taylor Loft has some gorgeous cardigans… I had to check it out after @Brooklyn55‘s recommendation!

@Miss Lemur: oh yes Ann Taylor Loft is a good option. I think I got 6 J Crew cardigans for Christmas this past year so I don’t need anymore.

This is the link for the necklaces:

@courtoni: Thanks for the link! I really love those! I think I’d like something with one or two coral flowers on two strands of pearls maybe?

I need to check eBay too. I bet I can find a good brand name coral cardigan on there if I look around enough.

I think a chunky coral necklace would add such a fun punch of color to your look, but I love the look of those sparkly necklaces too! I don’t think you can go wrong with either type!
