Mrs. Blue Whale's Picture
Mrs. Blue Whale, College Park, MD Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 33, Graduate Student Engagement Date: March 10, 2012 Wedding Date: May 2013 Venue: Southern Tree Plantation in Blairsville, GA About Me: I love bright colors, glitter, sugar, cheese, tiny animals, talking in silly accents, dancing, and all things music. I love to plan things, but when it comes time to execute the plans, I tend to panic. My friends tell me that I remind them of a mix between a cartoon character and a Disney Princess. Mr. Blue Whale and I are Southerners at heart, but we’ve been transplanted to the East Coast for school. We both love barbecues, star-gazing, bonfires, music, making up nonsense words, and generally being silly. Our wedding will be a fun-filled destination wedding in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It will most certainly feature bright colors, '80s music, and glitter.

Let’s Get Silly

February 14th, 2013 @ 10:36 am by Mrs. Blue Whale

One of the best parts of wedding planning has been coming up with completely ridiculous ideas of what could happen at our wedding. Because really, one shouldn’t take oneself too seriously.

We had a good laugh over picturing our first dance to “Kung Fu Fighting.”

Then, Mr. Whale suggested that the wedding party run into the reception football-team-style and bust through a big banner.

(OK, that would actually be pretty epic. I kind of want to do it…)

This weekend, we came up with our best idea yet. What if…I walked down the aisle to this?

I hope you imagined it with the music being live. I also hope you don’t now think I’m the weirdest person ever. Actually, who am I kidding? I’m a little weird. I like to be silly.

But in all seriousness, I totally recommend taking a break every once in a while and just being ridiculous. Feeling stressed about your bridesmaids’ dresses? Try to come up with the weirdest bridesmaids’ dresses ever—poufy sleeves, lime green sequins, patent leather knee-high boots, whatever makes you giggle. Feeling stressed about your flowers? Imagine if your bouquet was made out of silly, like socks! Or toothpicks! Or scissors! Worried about your ceremony? Come up with the most ridiculous vows you can imagine with your sweetie. After all, laughter is the best medicine.

Does anyone else have this little hobby? Have you come up with silly ideas of what could happen at your wedding? Tell me! I want a good laugh.

I love this idea! I haven’t done this yet, but it is probably the perfect antidote for planning stresses! I’m going to start brainstorming now…

Haha! Offbeat Bride posted a photo of a couple bursting through a banner awhile ago, and I definitely pinned it to my pinterest wedding board! http://offbeatbride.com/2012/07/just-married-sign

I also loved that Mrs. Unicycle’s bridesmaid and groomsman chose to come in to the reception to The Price is Right song, and suggested it to my FI who didn’t hate it…

So I think I’m saying that thinking about things that border on silly might be in danger of actually working their way into the wedding!

I vote entering the reception through a banner! But for real, you should have a list of things and let people vote on which crazy thing you’ll actually do at your wedding ;)

This post could not have come at a better time. I have been stressing lately about all the details (less than 3 month for me). I laughed so hard, I cried when I read this. My FI and I are huge sports fans, i work in college athletics … we may need to do the banner!!!

@NowDontLetsBeSilly: Haha! It might be true… we’ll see :)

@Miss Lemur: lol. Excellent. I like the idea of a vote!

@aoneil225: I’m so glad it gave you a good laugh!! I think the banner should totally become a new tradition, the way the sparkler exit has become the new cool thing :)

I totally do this too!

We toyed with the idea of breaking out “Dragula” for our first dance!

And the banner is sweet, I’m tempted!!
