Miss Mongoose's Picture
Miss Mongoose, New Haven, CT Age and Occupation: 28, Digital Advertising Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Business Development Engagement Date: November 19th, 2011 Wedding Date: May 2013 Venue: Hotel Nelligan in Montreal, CA About Me: I was born and raised in Queens, NY (though you would never know due to my lack of a "real" New York accent) but currently live in Connecticut with my fiance. Anyone who knows me knows that I have a crazy obsession for planning and organizing things, so it comes as no surprise that I'm currently obsessed with planning our wedding. I love dancing, music, traveling, reading fiction novels, cooking, the color blue, cupcakes, all things space science-related and TV shows created by Joss Whedon and J.J. Abrams. My fiance and I have been together for seven years and are so excited to finally get married next year. We are planning a peacock-themed destination wedding in Montreal, one of our favorite cities in the world, with 100 or so of our closest family and friends. While we may look very different on the outside, we have eerily similar personalities (probably due to the fact that we share the exact same birthday) and share very similar passions. But above all else, we love each other and love to have FUN!!!

The Double Digit Countdown Dance!

February 15th, 2013 @ 10:53 am by Miss Mongoose

While I don’t exactly have a real dance, I’d like to think it would look something like the animal’s below.

Nothing left for me to do but dance (oh, and 100 other wedding-related tasks). / Image via ImgFave.com

When we first started working on our wedding website I added a little countdown on the welcome page, and at the time it read “488 days until the big day.” And this week? We’ve finally hit double digits, baby!! We’ve obviously come a loooong way since the early days of planning, so with that in mind, I want to share a very top-line recap of what we’ve done and what we still have left to do (in terms of wedding planning).

Completed:

  • Wedding website created
  • Venue, photographer, wedding planner, DJ, florist, baker, hair & makeup artists, officiant, string quartet booked
  • Photo booth, up-lighting, and lounge decor booked (through DJ)
  • Said yes to the dress
  • Room blocks reserved
  • Wedding night accommodations booked
  • STDs sent
  • Registries created
  • Bridesmaids’ dresses chosen and ordered
  • Rehearsal dinner location booked
  • Reception rentals ordered
  • Shoes, veil, hair fascinator purchased
  • First fitting down, second scheduled in two months
  • Invitations sent
  • Honeymoon plans finalized
  • Ceremony music selected
  • Final wedding-planning trip scheduled
  • FINALLY started P90X to whip my ass in shape

With all the major things out of the way, it seems like the final few months are all about the details, so here is just a snippet of our still massive to-do list.

Upcoming:

  • Select wedding rings
  • Order wedding-day jewelry
  • Mr. M to select materials/style for custom suit
  • Mr. M to provide groomsmen with info on where to rent suits
  • Chase down guests who have not yet RSVP’ed
  • Food tasting at venue
  • Determine vendor meals
  • Food tasting at welcome dinner location
  • Final hair & makeup trial
  • Select bachelorette party and welcome dinner dresses
  • Submit reception music list to DJ
  • Order reception stuff
  • Order welcome bag supplies
  • Create welcome bag and bridal-party itineraries
  • Order ceremony programs, escort cards, table names, and all other necessary printed materials
  • Seating arrangements (UGH)
  • Get marriage license (hands down the most important upcoming to-do)
  • WRITE VOWS

OK, I’m going to stop here before I hyperventilate over the remaining to-dos. When I feel overwhelmed, I have to remember to take a step back, breathe, and always tackle what we consider priorities first.

If you are also getting close to your wedding date, does your upcoming to-do list look anything like mine?

We have 93 days left right now and I’ve been freaking out! I feel like all of the little details are the most difficult part.

We went from 380 days to now at the 78 day mark so making lists and freaking it is roughly a weekly event. My lists are certain things to get accomplished for the month along with things to buy that month also. The lists keep me organized and prepared but sometimes it can be overwhelming seeing what more needs to be accomplished and/or purchased. Thankfully my guy is always by my side with a hug and words of comfort. Good luck to you in your remaining planning.
