Shuttling the Guests

February 22nd, 2013 @ 8:24 am by Miss Jackrabbit

We don’t have a car.

Well, I have a car—but it’s parked in my parents’ garage 300 miles away. In this city, there is no need for a car. And if you bring a car, you will have to park it outside the city and either walk or get a bus in, because you’ll be lucky if you find a parking space anywhere near where you want to park.

Bad news for our guests who are traveling 200-plus miles to see us! We are suggesting traveling by train as there are two stations nearby, and recommending long-stay carparks just outside of the city for those who really need to drive.

But that’s only for parking for the weekend! There is nowhere around to park near our church and reception venue, so we are going to provide some transport between the two.

So with that in mind…say hello to…our vintage bus!

At first I really wanted the red vintage bus, but out of the two available in our area, one didn’t have enough seats and the other had already been booked!

Looking back, I’m glad we got the green and cream one. It’s so pretty and not at all what a normal vintage bus looks like, so it’s sure to stand out in pictures. Plus, I think the contrast between green and cream will look really pretty in black & white photos.

But they’re not just going to get a five-minute bus ride from the church to the reception venue, oh no. This beauty is going to take them on a journey around Brighton & Hove.

Our ceremony is at 2:00 PM and, as it’s a religious ceremony, it’s likely to last an hour. Our reception venue isn’t available until 4:00 PM, which gives us a whole hour to fill in between.

This will be a great time for the wedding party to head to the beach to get our photos taken, and in that time our guests will be learning a little more about the city we love.

The church is just above the number “3″ there on the very left of the map. This entire route takes 50 minutes, so if we time it just right, they will hop off the bus at our reception venue at 4:00 PM exactly!

I’ve heard amazing reviews of this tour by tourists and locals alike, but I’m going to check it out myself one Saturday morning just to make sure our guests aren’t bored to death by the end of their journey!

This is so different to a small town girl — I can’t imagine not having a car and still being able to get around!! This is super cool though :)

Also, I think this is a super cool idea! Gives you plenty of time without the guests getting bored.

So cute!!! I would love to ride in that :) Also, so jealous that you don’t need to drive – I have a 1-hour commute each way to work, Houston traffic is such a bummer.

LOVE the Bus !!

And personally I think green is a bit more subtle than red… I mean look how great the picture you posted is !!

Taking your Guests on a City Tour is an awesome idea… and a great way to pass the time.

I am sooo jealous !!

Oooooh, how I have to get to the UK in the near future… and take in all this great stuff to see and do !!

Very creative!!! I love the idea of getting a tour of the area in between the ceremony and the reception. If I was invited, you could bet I would have a front-row seat on the top deck of the bus!!!
I must come to Brighton some day…

Ummmm....

Make sure none of your guests have to pee when the get on the bus…. Ever thought that some guests might not want to be trapped on an hour long bus ride? What about misbehaving kids? Hope nobody gets carsick and blows chunks….

@Ummmm….: There are toilets at the church which we will be recommending to everyone before they take the journey. And we only have 3 small children – all of whom are very well behaved.

Luckily we know all our guests well and know none of them have issues with long journeys (except Jack’s godparents, but we’ve spoken to them and they’re happy to make their own way to the reception after the ceremony and don’t mind the wait) :)

@Miss Lemur: Ha! I walk a minimum of 3 miles a day! But luckily the town centre is only 1.5 miles away and it’s an easy walk down by the seafront. So it’s not like it’s a chore or anything! :) x

@Mrs. Wallaby: It’s FREEZING today and sometimes I do think I’d rather an hour long commute in a warm car than a 30 minute walk in the snow!

I love it, not just the bus, but the city sightseeing, it sounds like so much fun.
