Mrs. Gray Wolf, Washington DC Age and Occupation: 26, Business Development Executive Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Research Scientist Engagement Date: November 11, 2011 Wedding Date: February 2013 Venue: Whittemore House About Me: I'm an ultra-organized, pun-loving, list-making, cheese-enthusiast bride-to-be. Although my day job is in cubicle land, I'm happiest in the modern art wing of a museum, having recently earned my Masters in Museum Studies. Shortly after a chance meeting five years ago, I moved in with Wolfman and haven't looked back since. We love music, movies, TV, and all things pop culture; we have an unspoken competition to be the first to share the latest YouTube sensation or indie song. Together, we've filled quite a few pages in our passports, but also love quiet nights in with a Game of Thrones marathon and our French Bulldog, Tonks (Harry Potter, anyone?). I'm planning a small, cozy winter wedding---think mercury glass and candle light---in the heart of DC. Our venue is a historic home with a lot of political charm, but needs a bit of work to be wedding-ready.

Italian Honeymoon: Rome

February 26th, 2013 @ 12:03 pm by Mrs. Gray Wolf

Hi hive! Missed you all! I’ve been a little busy, getting married and all…and it was really awesome. I’ll wait until I get our pictures to spill any details, but I am SO excited to tell you all about it.

In the meantime, I thought I’d tell you a bit about our little Italian honeymoon. We left for Rome the Monday after our wedding…

My blingy wedding nails and new initials!

First of many celebratory drinks. Confession: we asked our flight attendant to take this as a way to tell her we were on our honeymoon just in case we got any free stuff. No dice.

Our travel schedule was a little less than be desired (DC > NYC > Amsterdam > Rome), but our room was great and ready when we got there.

Rome! A view from the Forum

Normally for a trip like this, we would have some semblance of an itinerary before we went—or at least have glanced at a travel book or two. We were too busy before we left, and I felt lucky that we had a hotel! Our first day was spent attempting to get on Italian time (read: napping), walking around our little neighborhood, and game-planning our trip.

Our rough schedule every day was this: wake up, cappuccino & breakfast, some sort of sightseeing for a few hours (usually with a museum), late lunch, wander slowly back to our hotel, veg and nap, then out for a late long dinner. Let me tell you…this is no shabby way to spend a day.

The Forum and Colosseum

The first day we dedicated to ancient Rome. We visited the Forum (so cool!), the Colosseum, and Capitoline Museum.

Constantine. Recognizable for art history majors!

Wolfman pointed out that we came to an appropriate city—after all, Romulus and Remus, who founded Rome, were raised by wolves.

We also paused a lot for drinks.

Day two was dedicated to Catholic Rome. We went to St. Peter’s and the Vatican museums—one of the highlights of the trip for me. I couldn’t believe the sheer volume of stuff they had.

School of Athens

We joked that our visit must have caused quite a stir because a day later, the Pope quit.

That night we had one of the best meals, including this monster pear and gorgonzola ravioli:

Seriously guys. I gained five pounds.

Day Three, we visited the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps.

Our four nights went by really fast, so I was really glad we had a whole other city to explore…

BTW Rome is like #1 on my travel destination bucket list, but we decided to opt for a nice, relaxing, beach honeymoon instead because I would have felt guilty sleeping in and napping when there is so much to see!

I love the “School of Athens”! This brings back so many great memories of Rome. I’m glad you guys had a more relaxed schedule. When we went, we were non-stop, and it was a little too overwhelming.

I went to room at the beginning of college on a study abroad trip. Absolutely loved it. You couldn’t pick a better place for a honeymoon!
