About Miss Blue Whale

A Little Dose of Life

February 27th, 2013 @ 8:31 am by Miss Blue Whale

A married friend of mine recently said to me, “You’re getting married in about three months. Shouldn’t you be more stressed right now?” And I guess the world agreed I wasn’t stressed enough with my wedding, my dissertation, and my second bachelor’s degree. Because today…

I broke my wrist.

Mr. Whale is always teasing me about my apparent inability to know how much space I take up, because I’m always running into things. I’m a bit clumsy. And today that culminated in a very epic, very embarrassing spill just outside of my work building.

So hive, a few words of advice… First, those people were serious when they said not to catch yourself with your hands if you fall. And second, you can’t plan for everything. The doctor assures me that my cast will be off in time for the wedding. But you know, anything could happen. Life doesn’t stop for your wedding. You just have to hope that the stars align on your special day and allow it to go on without too many hiccups.

Anyone else get thrown a big curve ball before the actual wedding day?

(P.S. I may be absent for a little while. It’s kind of hard to type with one hand.)

Oh no! I’m so sorry! I hope your wrist gets better. Whenever I used to get hurt as a kid, my grandmother would say “Don’t worry, it will get better before your wedding” But I realized, pretty soon, that is going to stop being true!

Oh no! I’m so sorry! My sister has broken BOTH of her wrists several times now (first time was jumping on the bed as a kid, then I think she broke them twice falling while figure skating practicing jumps). Apparently once you break something once it’s easier to break again so be careful!!!

Worst!! I broke BOTH my wrists a couple weeks before my senior prom. One cast was removed before (and downgraded to a brace, which I took off for pictures) and was able to hide the remaining cast for most pictures. Fingers crossed for you!!

OH MY GOODNESS, I’m so sorry! That’s awful. I hope you heal really quickly so you can have it off. But if not, you can find some super spiffy jewelry to dress up the cast, and it could double as a guest book? silver linings, right? ;-) Good luck!

When you get that cast off, use a ton of lotion. When my cast came off for my wrist when I was younger, my arm was so red and splotchy cause it itched so bad.

I’m sorry! I hope you heal quickly and nicely!

I’m so sorry, Blue Whale, this is turds! I’m usually the one to find a silver lining but honestly if this happened to me I’d be straight up miserable and stressed to the max. Sending you tons of positive energy vibes.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I just got my cast on, and I find out in a week whether I need surgery!

@WoodenShoes: That sounds awful!

@Blonde17Jess: lol. That’s the funniest idea for a guestbook I’ve ever imagined!

I broke my tailbone two months ago. My wedding is in a week. Tailbones take upwards of two months to heel. I feel your pain…perhaps literally. I hope you are better soon!

Oh gosh, how stressful!

I thought this might cheer you up: my grandmother was in an accident skiing right before her wedding and hurt her back and neck badly, and was actually in a neck brace on her wedding day. They were able to loosen up the high lace neckline on her dress so that it would fit over her neck brace, and so despite everything she had a great wedding day and it’s barely even noticeable in their photos. You’ll be alright too!
