My Dirty Little Wedding Secret

March 6th, 2013 @ 5:14 am by Mrs. Sword

Here it is, mere days before our wedding and I’m finally coming clean. I’ve tried so hard to delight you all for months, I’ve shown you almost every single aspect of our wedding from the mundane to the exciting, and now I have one last thing to say:

I hate plaid. Plaid is too harsh with its crisscrossing lines and it’s abominable mixing of colors that never seem to go together. I don’t buy plaid shirts, and I don’t wear plaid scarfs. I’ve never seen the appeal.

Wait! What is plaid again? Let’s consult the all-powerful Google, shall we? Below is a screenshot from my laptop.

My Dirty Little Wedding Secret : wedding cultural decor minnesota What Is Plaid what-is-plaidMy Dirty Little Wedding Secret : wedding cultural decor minnesota

Oh that’s right! Plaid is cloth with a tartan pattern. So that means, THERE IS PLAID ALL OVER MY WEDDING.

And to be honest, I’m so excited I can hardly stand it! I should say, I used to hate plaid, because it looks completely different to me now.

In three days I get to marry my favorite person. Years ago I dreamed of this day as a pastel-colored wedding with soft hues and a light and airy feel with a string quartet playing as I walked down the aisle.

When Saturday arrives I will be greeted by the dark, rich colors of our wedding and will get to see our beautiful family tartan covering everyone I love; I will hear the harsh but strong and dependable sounds of the bagpipe during my bridal march, and I will feel more intense love than I could ever imagine. Dreams do come true. But sometimes they don’t look the way you pictured them, which makes them even more like fairy tales.

(all photos personal)

How do YOU feel about plaid? (aka The most important question I’ve ever asked. Don’t mess it up!) Bye for now, I promise to check in one more time before I walk down the aisle! Happy weekend everyone, I’m getting married! EEEEK!

The plaid is one of the main things that makes your wedding so unique! I love it and think it works perfectly (although like you, I normally would never go for plaid). Have the BEST WEEK EVER!!!!!

Enjoy your wedding week!
And P.S: I don’t have much of an opinion regarding plaid. I don’t think I own anything plaid.

Happy wedding week, enjoy these last few days!!
On plaid-I love it. It probably has something to do with my country roots, but I think it can be fun and pretty (just like your tartan!)

I have this idea that everyone in the cold parts of the world goes around wearing plaid flannel, Army surplus coats, baggy jeans and boots all winter (I was probably way too into the ‘grunge’ look in the ’90s). We’re planning to move north at some point, and I can’t wait.

Best wishes! And good luck with the week-before!

I don’t have strong feelings one way or another on plaid. My husband loves it and looks good in it, so I guess that means I like it? ;)

But you bring up a good point. The wedding I THOUGHT I wanted for years was so different than the wedding I had. It’s funny how much having an actual partner and relationship to base the wedding around changes what you pictured as a kid!

I’ll be honest, even when I’m not on the Bee I randomly think “Oh I can’t wait to see Miss Sword’s wedding dress & her recaps,” does that make me a freak!? lol Good luck with everything, I can’t wait to see all the pictures afterwards!

I can feel you on not being a lover of plaid. Plaid is definitely not something that I had envisioned in my wedding prior to falling in love with a Scotsman. Now, when I think about my wedding I feel such an excitement for the moment that I’ll see my man and his groommen at the front of the church wearing their family tartan. The tartan my fiance will be wearing will be part of who I am after our wedding and that makes me really happy. The history behind the tartan and his clan is so neat. I look forward to the day that I can share the last name and the history with him and my children.

Three Days..you must be overjoyed! Try to take it all in and I can’t wait to hear how your family enjoys the ceilidh band. It’s one of the things I’m most looking forward to with our wedding.

I personally love plaid. I can’t say I wear it all that much compared to other prints, like stripes, florals, dots, but I’ve always found it to be very comfy and cozy looking. I’m sure your wedding will look stunning though, with all of the tartan touches!

Wow, is it that time already ???

Lol, I cannot wait either… your Recaps I’m sure will be amazing !! So anticipating the photos.

HAPPY WEDDING DAY… take time to breath, and enjoy every second, because it really can be breathtaking and exhilarating all at once.

As for plaid…

I got a great chuckle out of the post above by jmarvellous because it is kind of true… Plaid is a cold-weather go to for some of us (I’m Canadian).

Light coloured / pastel plaid combos or it in lighter fabrics or summertime wear… is I’ll admit a big turn off for me. That is when it earns the dreaded word “plaid”

But in flannel and wool, when the weather turns chilly… and I am thrilled to have a bit of “tartan” in my life.

The cool thing about plaid is that it comes in soooo many varieties. Personally the richer, deeper, bolder the colour combos the more I like the Tartan.

Although to be fair that may tie back to the fact that I have some Scottish ancestry and our personal tartan colours were all dark & muted (which is also WHY I am so dang in LOVE with your new family tartan… over the moon about purple !!)

I have to admit I am a tad envious of you… it is cool when you marry someone who has a rich heritage that you can embrace as a couple… and incorporate into your lives and family, things you can pass onto your children & future generations.

When I married Mr TTR, we came together as two middle of the road Canadians… with a rather blasé North American history… but we’ve recently discovered that he has strong British Roots (maybe even with a noble twist… Knight of the Round Table)… so now we are anxious to plan a trip to the UK to check out where his ancestors are from (there are even ruins of a castle).

It ain’t tartan… but there is reportedly a family coat of arms… and that is something we could get into displaying in our home.
