Miss Camera's Picture
Miss Camera, Charlotte, NC/Charleston, SC Age and Occupation: 27 & Emergency Room Physician Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31 & Newspaper Editor/Designer Engagement Date: October 7, 2012 Wedding Date: September 2013 Venue: The Island House, Charleston, SC About Me: I'm a north-to-south transplant, currently living in Charlotte, North Carolina, but still representing all things Pittsburgh, PA. One month after I moved to NC, I went on a date with a guy I met on Match.com, and now we're getting married! I work in a busy Emergency Room as a Physician Assistant and while the hours are sometimes difficult, I can't see myself doing anything else. I live with my fiance in uptown Charlotte. We have an opinionated 5 year old tabby cat named Milo and a sweet, but rambunctious 8 month old mutt named Charlie (short for Charlotte - she's a girl!). I've embraced Southern culture, and our wedding is no exception---what better location than Charleston, SC? I watch too much TV and know every word to every episode of Friends (I've watched The One With Monica and Chandler's Wedding at least a hundred times...hope I have enough money for Wedding Scenario A!). I love baking cupcakes, cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State Nittany Lions and am openly addicted to celebrity gossip and pop culture.
About Miss Camera

Hello, hive!

As lots of other bees do, today I’d love to share our engagement photos with you!

First, a little background. So Cam works at a newspaper right? Anyone who lives in 2013 knows that unfortunately print media is not exactly an up-and-coming industry. Several jobs ago, he worked at a reaaaaally small community newspaper that unfortunately got absorbed by a larger company. The photographer for that paper decided to get out while the getting was good, and started his own personal photography business. When Cam’s sisters got married, two years apart, he suggested that Robert do their photography. Again, at this point he was relatively new to the wedding game. His work is fabulous. Here are a couple photos of my future sisters-in-law, AKA Bridesmaid C and Bridesmaid E:

Fun, right?

So, fast forward several years, and now the Cameras could use some assistance in the photography department. Robert has since done many weddings and other various photography assignments, and his work has only gotten better. The best part was that since Cam had referred two weddings to him (and a third this summer!) and was a friend, he is giving us an insane discount.

I guess that’s what you call a friendor. More on that later, as we have several.

So on a surprisingly warm December afternoon, we ventured out into the city of Charlotte looking for locations for our engagement photos. We really wanted some cityscapes, and also wanted to have some sunset photos. It was about three weeks before Christmas, and all the lights and decorations were already set up. What we ended up with was better than I’d imagined.

I’m kinda in love with them. They’re so different than the standard photos I’ve seen (which are great, don’t get me wrong—I just wanted to do something a little different). I wanted some to be Christmas-y without being overpowering, and I think Robert did a great job of that.

PS: The photo with all the Charlotte signs is at the Green, where Cam proposed!

Did you have engagement photos taken? Were they taken at a place that was special to you?

I’m so excited to see these photos. I am a Charlotte-native and we are doing our engagment photos downtown and at the greenway next month. I love how well yours turned out!

Oh I love the one with just the Christmas lights in the background! I also love when pictures are taken at an angle so they aren’t just straight up or down, so pretty!

Definitely Christmas-y without overpowering, it doesn’t scream anything at you. I love these, especially the first one. Which one is your fav?!

My fiance is actually from Charlotte, Michigan (like the sign in your photo) but they pronounce it “Shar” “lot” like parking lot rather than like Charlotte, NC….

April Bride

Our engagement photos were taken in winter in a very cold city — we had no choice due to a Thanksgiving engagement and an April wedding five months later :) So we had limited options due to weather. We did our shoot at a conservatory, which resulted in beautiful photos with great light (through the glass ceiling) and lots of green foliage and water features. But we didn’t have to freeze outdoors in the snow! A conservatory is a great option for a winter engagement shoot in a cold climate. (Just check whether you need a Parks Department permit like we did.)

@MsCharlotte: We went to sugar creek greenway at the met, then just walked up and down trade & tryon! I thought we’d run out of ideas after 2 hours.. 4 1/2 hours later we were still running around downtown!! Let me know when you get your’s, I’d love to see them :)

Exactly what I was aiming for, glad my point came across :)

@Miss Palm Tree: I love the one with the christmas lights behind us, and the one just above that where we’re sitting on the grass. But honestly we have about 200 of them and it was hard enough to narrow it down to these! I can’t wait to see your’s :)

@sarahblais: yes! My fiance is from Michigan too and he made sure I knew that :) There are about 15 signs that say Charlotte on them.. I have photos where you can see all of them, but they’re further away and you can’t really see us that well, so I chose this one.

@sarahblais: My dad is from Charlotte, Michigan! Actually growing up that was the only way I knew how to pronounce Charlotte so when I moved down to South Carolina and was so confused.

@Miss Camera: These are so lovely! You guys look amazing! On the second picture (not the ones with you guys in it), is it taken in a cave?? I’m sitting here trying to figure out the background of that picture but it looks awesome!

@Miss Lemur: Almost!! It’s in the walkway-tunnel underneath Chimney Rock by Lake Lure! I wasn’t there, this was pre-cameras :) , but from what I understand, you have to take an elevator inside the mountain to get to the top, and this was them walking up there.

Reflection photos are some of my favorites. Wonderful. And I love the one where your kissing and the lights are all out of focus behind you. I may steal those for inspiration shots!

And tell Cam that I feel his pain. I worked at a paper for 2.5 years. Rough world, that is.
