Miss Camera's Picture
Miss Camera, Charlotte, NC/Charleston, SC Age and Occupation: 27 & Emergency Room Physician Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31 & Newspaper Editor/Designer Engagement Date: October 7, 2012 Wedding Date: September 2013 Venue: The Island House, Charleston, SC About Me: I'm a north-to-south transplant, currently living in Charlotte, North Carolina, but still representing all things Pittsburgh, PA. One month after I moved to NC, I went on a date with a guy I met on Match.com, and now we're getting married! I work in a busy Emergency Room as a Physician Assistant and while the hours are sometimes difficult, I can't see myself doing anything else. I live with my fiance in uptown Charlotte. We have an opinionated 5 year old tabby cat named Milo and a sweet, but rambunctious 8 month old mutt named Charlie (short for Charlotte - she's a girl!). I've embraced Southern culture, and our wedding is no exception---what better location than Charleston, SC? I watch too much TV and know every word to every episode of Friends (I've watched The One With Monica and Chandler's Wedding at least a hundred times...hope I have enough money for Wedding Scenario A!). I love baking cupcakes, cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State Nittany Lions and am openly addicted to celebrity gossip and pop culture.
About Miss Camera

Poor Cam.

Our townhouse has become a mecca for glitter, kraft paper, chalkboard paint, Mason jars, and straws with little flags in our wedding colors.

Everywhere you turn there is another cluster of half-finished projects and DIY supplies.

You see, I am pretty crafty.

In the good way—not in the menacing, witch-crafty kinda way.

I always have and probably always will be, which bodes well for my future children. “No honey, we don’t need to go buy a Spiderman costume, I’ve got a red sweatshirt and some black yarn here. I’ll whip one up in a jiff!”

As soon as we were engaged, I knew a large portion of this wedding would come from my brain. And I wanted it that way. I definitely knew for certain that I did not want a cookie cutter, hotel-ballroom wedding. One thing is for sure—it definitely is not turning out to be cookie cutter.

I’ve done a few projects so far, but I’m about to turn up the gas and really get cookin’.

Here’s a little bit of what I’ve been up to:

The One Where I Live in a DIY Factory : wedding charleston decor diy Photo6 photo6

These were a HUGE hit (thank goodness!). I really debated whether or not to attempt any paper products, but I figured a save the date was a good place to start. Friends and family have been raving. / Personal photo

The One Where I Live in a DIY Factory : wedding charleston decor diy Glassstraw glassstraw

Chalkboard sticker vinyl cut out with an EK Success paper cutter, and a paper straw with a little flag! Once the guest list is complete, the stickers will have names on them. / Personal photo

The One Where I Live in a DIY Factory : wedding charleston decor diy Straws straws

Paper straws with wedding colors! Excuse the quality of the photo—iPhones weren’t made for high-resolution pictures of straws on shiny tables. / Personal photo

My current wish list for DIY projects besides these three (which are almost done) includes:

  • A banner of some sort to hang behind the cake table
  • LOTS of chalkboard signs for the food, bar, etc.
  • Vintage suitcase with a bunting banner for a card box
  • Flower hair piece

And there are still many, many more to come! Stay tuned.

Who else is a big DIY’er? Are you tackling any paper products such as save the dates or invitations?

we are doing almost everything DIY also. Thankfully my honey worked at Hobby Lobby so he is ok with the mess that comes along with DIY.

In love with all your DIYs!!! I remember seeing your Save the Date on the boards- very memorable!! Is there any way you could share the template for the mason jar?
I love your tags for the mason jars too! Where did you get the chalkboard vinyl? I was thinking of doing something like this but haven’t worked with vinyl before and wasn’t sure if it was easy to cut/ work with? I have a big shot and it says it works with vinyl too.
Very excited to see all your projects!! Great job so far :)

I love your Save the Date! I also have a huge crush on all things mason jar, so I’m excited to see how they play out in your wedding. In my head, they’re perfect for Charleston. EEE!

I am just getting started planning, but I have lots of DIY ideas already. I’m a little afraid I’ll end up having too much DIY and I’ll go crazy trying to get it all done!

These are amazing, what a craft maven! I’ve written quite a few blog articles on how to pace yourself with DIY and not taking on too many projects, but you’re a superstar at this!

How many DIYs do you have total?

Officially jealous of your craftiness! I just live on Etsy so I can pay other people to be crafty for me :)
