I interrupt these recaps to bring you this moment of reality during our first look.
While we were planning our wedding long distance, the mister had it pretty easy—there was only so much he could do since we were in separate states. But when the day was upon us, he took over and made sure everything was going according to plan. The reason he was late for our first look was because there was a helium shortage and he was handling it.
I love that this was caught on tape.
Me: (Petting his head, trying to be IN THE MOMENT.)
Him: Oh, we had to get a second helium.
Me: (Slowly realizes that he thinks this is a wedding planning meeting.) OK.
Him: So I dropped another $80. I hope that’s OK.
Me: (Laughs nervously.) That’s fine. (Laughs some more, looking at our team of photographers and videographers, hoping he gets the hint to stop. He doesn’t.)
Him: We returned the one and exchanged it for jumbo.
I wanted to share this with you guys because no matter how “perfect” certain things seem to turn out in the photographs, weddings can be anything but. Ours was definitely real, with plenty of moments that weren’t exactly magical—just like every other event in my life. This snippet reminds me that we tackled it as a team, and I’ll take that over perfection.
You did a great job on the balloons, buddy.
